Hi Sander,
although yet have only CH and USA been mentioned by Märklin (on their German webpage), but if Keuterman will do the updates for NL, he should be able to do so by getting the hardware probably within less than a week from the folks in Göppingen. By that your customers may even get their updates done faster than most in Germany.

Hi Bob and Nev,
Sorry to read this.
You have probably already seen this, but anyway have a look here:
http://www.maerklin.de/produkte/cs_update.php
(in German only [V]).
There is also a direct address where to send it if you have no dealers to do it. I will try to find it.
Thanks Benny, Have seen that, Actually I posted the letter that M sent to dealers some months ago.
IN That letter they stated that the Program would begin in JUNE and END in December. But as we keep on saying M says soon. [V][xx(]

In the Stummi Forum today appeared the first german person who got is CS back, logically updated.
Following his words he sent the CS in the 19.06 and got it back updated today 04.07.

That is very good indeed - only two weeks turnaround time - as long as "they" roll out of Germany too - but do they?
Taking my own case my CS was shipped from the dealer in the second week of june (week 23) and including two weeks for shipments to and from it would be fair to expect it back just around now, BUT according to my dealer to day, he does not expext any updated CS's returned at least this month! That makes me wonder how FIFO is interpreted in Göppingen.
Now, it was not stated above if the update was actually done in G*. Also my dealer could be surprised with an earlier return shipment from M* than he is expecting. Time will show.

I had the OK from the Italian Service Centre to ship the CS to them, in turn they will ship it to Goeppingen once they gather some, it's going to take a little longer.
From what I have read on Stummi, the main PCB is going to be replaced, this because the Ethernet port on the upgraded ones is upside-down ( or down-under if like
)

I have relay from lokshop boss said you should send CS to direct marklin service centre, not via the dealers.

Does that make sense to do? Would there be a problem to plug in upside-down?
Or has M* needs for spare parts for the Australian market

The only reason I can think of is an ergonomical one.The "plug lock release clip" can be reached more easily if the socket is turned around.

Since it was going to be replaced they probably thought to this feature too, but I think this not the main reason for the replacement.

Well it seems there is some logic in this;According to a member of the Stummi forum After consulting the new manual for the CS there are two positions of the RJ 45 socket:
-1
Old CS updated,lockclip TOP
-2
New CS ,lockclip BOTTOM

I just imagined that you would have a MS too, but apparently you don't. So as you say: [xx(]

Hi Pål,
That's great news!
So it didn't take them that long to modify yours and to have it sent back to you,is that correct?
Have fun and please post your findings.

Hello again,
I delivered it 26.june on my holiday in Göppingen and they told me 4 to 6 weeks,
so I was very suprised when it arrived today, only 16 days including mail time here.
I will test it later, probably not before the weekend.
I do want to have the new manual in English, I got it in German.
Anybody know where I can get it in English ?

Nicely done Marklin! 16 days seems like GREAT service to me, even with consideration that the user delivered in person. (I don't have the CS yet but that would be a great excuse to pass to the wife)

Hope the updates work well for you!!

Hi Brian,
I fully agree, but the general picture seems to be somewhat different.
The updated CS' should be streaming back to the owners by now according to the 16 days considering that probably a lot CS' were sent to Göppingen up to three weeks before Pål hand delivered his. Yet, we have only heard so far, that a couple of members have got their CS back. I am sure that our friends here would not keep it a secret if their CS was already returned. I will certainly post as soon as mine is back (expected late this month).
I think that we should stick to the earlier expectation of 4-6 weeks turn around at G* plus 2 weeks shipping time, which in my opinion also is quite good for such a huge task.

Benny - Outsider and MFDWPL

The person who he deals with at M has gone on holiday for a month and apparently NO ONE else can do anything it that persons absence. Couldnt run a 2 Ticket Raffle with 3 Prizes [:(!][V][xx(]

Hi Nev. Someone goes on holiday and your dealer has to wait a month to get a reply....unbelievable..what sort of a firm is this.
Interesting to note it takes 2/3 weeks to get to Germany and 4/6 to get back. Must be uphill on the return journey.
My sympathies to all you fellows downunder. Build an efigy of this person who is on holiday and stand it under running water...that way it will rain constantly where he is on holiday.
David

DAvid Firm as You Guessed is Mother M. Terrible it is.
Reason taking so long on the return is as you guessed Uphill, BUT also Unfortunately being a commercial shipment will have to go through Customs, Custom Agents etc which can add another 2 weeks or more to the journey.
Not worried about rain on holiday I think that Section/Department boss should be P***ed on from a great height [}:)]

Interesting to note it takes 2/3 weeks to get to Germany and 4/6 to get back. Must be uphill on the return journey.
David
Just an explanation. Normal Post from Germany (economy) is 10 Days.
However with a Commercial Shipment (from Mother M to the Dealer) it takes a lot longer. by the time paper work is done and Money paid adds another 2 weeks to the time.
To unwind and relax I am having a dewers to be followed by a Nice Malt.

Hello friends,
Did some testing yesterday with the "new" upgraded Central Station.
Haven't got any reply yet from Märklin regarding the new manual in English.
Anyway I do think that the new software version is much much better than the "old" one.
I also wanted to try to connect it to my laptop and after reading the English Ecos manual
and the German CS manual, I understand that I had to use a crossed ethernet cable if I want
to connect the CS directly to my laptop. I did so and it worked ! Really nice to have possibillity
to take backup of all the information I put in my CS and also to restore it back into the CS if there
should have been any "problem" with the CS. I tried both way and it worked without any problems at all.
You can also connect the CS to a Switch / Hub / Router but then you must use a "normal" ethernet cable !
I have not tried this yet so I don't know if it work, but I will try it later as I have a DCHP Router network.
Many new and nice possibillities in the new software. It is really much better.
You can change icon's on the function's,,, and there is much more icon's to choose from,,,
You can program a decoder with CV programming,,, Really easy,,, Search for the adress in the decoder etc,,,
You can connect the "old" digital equipment,,, S88 modul,,, Booster (Included a special cable for the booster)
Etc etc,,,
I am happy !
Must go and try some more,,, Ciao !

Nev, Dion (my M Dealer) has just posted on his website a message advising of a special combined shipment of CS' from NZ to Mother M, with the whole process taking 6 weeks from 10 August. So all I have to do is send my CS to Dion, pay $35 (I didn't buy the CS from him) and the rest is taken care of, with the updated CS back by the end of September, all going well. An interesting note is that Dion has arranged with Mother M for a "time slot for our CS units to be updated". This arrangement alleviates the concerns I had, as the whole shipment is tracked, insured and all Customs requirements are handled.
Seems to me that this sort of arrangement is a credit to the dealer concerned, and maybe a model of how other dealers in far flung outposts of the world should handle the whole CS update process.
Now, where's my CS packaging material......
Oh, you can check out the notice at

To All CS Users in USA,
I was over the weekend visiting the ETE West meeting in CA and talked
to Tom C. from Maerklin.
He had the first upgraded CS showing and operating.
After I asked him when we could expect to get our CS's upgraded,
he told me, that the parts are coming in from Germany and they had allready a view, but not enough for all owners of a CS.
There is light on the end of the tunnel!!!

Hi Nev.
I sincerely hope that your dealer soon will be able to come up with a solution for all you guys in Aus. similar to the one by Toottoot in NewZ. Maybe even getting an update facility that could handle all CS' in your area.
Well done Toottoot! The way to go.
Regards,
Benny - Outsider and MFDWPL
