Hi, my new PCM BR 01 arrived. I took the BR 01 202 with sound without skirt as it was stationed in Hof in the end of the sixties (which is nearby my home):  The model is great: very much detailed, good pulling power, running almost silent at any speed, different top speed running forward and backward as the original, terrific sound (it was so loud when I first ran the loco I almost was shocked  ). But there is always something to improve: the model has red steps going to the smokebox whereas the original had black ones; the two lower front lanters had a significant darker light than the top one on the boiler. So I painted the inside of the lower lanterns in white for better luminosity. I also put real coal in the tender and both driver and fireman in the cab.  The fireman's side: I touched the the dummy lights for the carriage with tip of white colour::  The fully equipped front with recoloured lanterns and the blackend steps:  And now with light and smoke:  View from above:  Finally the driver's side:  Thomas

Very nice pics, Thomas! I love the BR01 and this model looks very nice. Very happy with my oil BR012, which I count as a BR01 [^] I have checked the website http://precisioncraftmodels.comThere seems to be no difference in the diverse models with/without apron (skirt) on their pictures. |

Very,very nice class 01! That's my favourites class 01 Where can I find Germany mail order for PCM? Lokshop and Europe dont have stock PCM. |

Thomas, thanks for the pics. Very obvious differences visible on your pictures links. I would have thought that the PCM website would have shown the differences, so I started to wonder about what was meant by 'apron' c.q. 'skirt' [B)] (Schurze for sure) I think I would pick the model with skirt myself. Leaves something to fantasize... My three cylinder BR012 063-4 has no apron either, but the BR003 131-0 does.  |

Thomas - I liked your highlights on the loco especially painting the steps. Definitely looks more authentic and, as you point out, is consistent with the prototype. I always cringe at my locos with the sea of red on the outside of the tender trucks, but oh well, I'm not a big time weatherer.

Here is a rough translation of the summing-up of the 01 comparison by Grube Karl on the forum linked in the previous post.
Both Märklin`s 01 and Precision 01 are beautiful models. Everyone has their pro and cons. The gamble with the Marklin engine (it runs cleanly or not) vergällt?? however the joy. The Precision 01 costs euro 299, the Märklin 01 with the local dealer euro 329. Drive and sound - technically the Precision in my judgement is somewhat better than the Märklin. Perhaps I can appreciate that the Märklin 01 has some better characteristics. Both locomotives were, except in the address conversion, tested on my layout using clean C-tracks and contolled with the ECOS controller.

Be careful with the sound, I turned mine up too loud and blew the speaker I think. It went staight back to Marklin and was repaired.
