Yes, you just need to change out the wheel sets. Ira |

In addition to the different wheels, the "American" models have Kadee-like couplers. I do not know about European ones.

If you are not using contact tracks as the basis of a computer controlled layout, then do you really need to change the wheel sets?? |

The Trix cars on my layout (RP25 wheels) do not derail, but I have the impression they "wiggle" more than their exact Märklin counterparts (45680, 45690) when traversing the long turnouts and crossing in their path.

I have several 4 and 2 axle Trix cars in use on my c-track layout and have not had to change the wheels.

Adrian: Not really. You certainly need the AC wheels for the contact track, but they do not really do much otherwise, except provide a bridge between the tracks in case one rail is not fully connected to gound. |

That's right. But most of (serious) dealers change couplers and wheels (Märklin 320551) on request for free. Just don't forget to ask ... Pierre.

ACtually, there are three(3) wheel types: AC, DC, and RP25.
AC is marklin, the wheels are electrically connected. (one piece of metal) These are made specifically to Marklin's standard. (I think there is an NEM AC standard that is marklin)
DC is an NEM standard. Not quite the same as AC in axle length, but the alowable range overlaps with AC. Wheels are electrically isolated. Most non-marklin EU cars and Loks have these wheels. (Such as Roco DC) These wheels work just fine on C-track (I have lots) and K-track. May or may not work on M-track (mostly not[xx(]).
RP25 is the NMRA standard (US). The flanges are realy MUCH smaller than either AC or DC, to satisfy the pickey US modelers. Most of the Trix US caars and some Loks come with these wheels. RP25 does NOT work on marklin track switches, except on the K-track turnouts with movable frogs.
Trix usually includes the wheel type in the item description. If it says RP25, it will only run on US-type track.
I have stopped requesting that my new Roco/Brawa/Piko/... items have AC wheels. Swapping one AC wheel per car gets the train detection if I need it. |

You have also the Trix 3-rail DC wheels with very thick flanges. Will not run on AC or DC tracks. |

TRIX wheel sets. The DC wheel sets that come with the new TRIX items are insulated so that when you install lighting kits for 2-rail operation you will not have a short. These wheel sets should work with no problem on Marklin C-track as long as you don't install car lighting. Now that Marklin owns TRIX the wheel sets are easily interchangeable. Both Marklin and TRIX catalogues suggest the appropriate sets to go with each wagon or car. I would not use RP25 wheels unless you are operating under US standards. Do not use TRIX Express wheel sets as the flanges on them are large and C-track cannot handle them. These wheel sets are designed for track profile height of 3.1 mm (TE fibre and super-track height), whereas C-track is 2.1 mm. If you have TRIX Express track you can operate Marklin AC and still use the standard TRIX DC wheel sets. I operate both TRIX Express and Marklin but I keep both layouts separate from each other. You cannot operate Marklin AC wheel sets on a DC layout, but you can operate DC wheel sets on an AC layout. As others in this forum have suggested, your dealer can change the wheels for you or you can order the wheels and do the change yourself in a few minutes. Good luck and would be interested to know how it works out for you. |

Thanks for the greeting Ira. It is a lot of fun getting back into the hobby again after many years of storage. If anyone has TRIX questions please feel free to contact me, I am not an expert but have an extensive operating collection and information and additional resources. I know I will have Marklin questions.

In trix catalogue there are some models (such as flatcars for truck, "rollende landstrasse" or container cars) where the set of AC wheels is not indicated. That means that you can't find AC wheels for these models? Or that the dealer will not change them for free?

Hi Pietro,
Yes, you can - easily since these types of cars were/are also offered by Märklin. Every dealer should exchange the wheels for free.
Part# for the "Rollende Landstrasse" is #363360 (4,8mm, non-isolated); this applies for the usage of set #24507 on Märklin tracks Part# for the container cars ("Taschenwagen") is #321973 (8,4mm, non-isolated); this applies for the usage of set #24504, etc. on Märklin tracks.
Just ask your dealer where you ordered the TRIX set(s) to order the corresponding number of exchange wheels (for 24507 it is "only" 56 wheels! :-)
Regards, Lutz

Thank you Lutz. I'll ask again to have the wheels changed for free, as you suggest... I asked it yet to my dealer but he answered it's not possible... I'll try to contact some german online dealers... Thank you again. Regards, Pietro

I recall this problem from the heavy weight car (TRIX #24020); some dealers apparently didn't want to order the special exchange set (#305268) - even though they get reimbursed, if they get billed for those axles at all.
Regards, Lutz
