Hi friends,
the last discussion about plastic left me in a dubt, after read this answer:

Many roco and other locomotives have Teflon gears (no idea about this marklin ones), with good maintenance and adequate oil for Teflon they can last forever, even more than the normal marklin brass gears.

This teflon gears are completely different to the old lima pure plastic gears. "But" the big problem with non metallic gears is the lubrication, some inexperienced users use normal oil to lubricate them, this oil can disintegrate plastic, Teflon or any other resin gear in a couple of years.

So, for plastic, Teflon or any other non metallic gear you must use a non aggressive grease or special oil for this purpose.

Teflon and high quality plastic gears have been in use for many years in CD players, radio cassettes, printers, etc., their reliability is bulletproof, and their smoothness is the mayor advantage over metallic gears.

I realized that in the last year I used only a kind of oil (faller) for all my locos (lima & Roco plastic gear too).
Is it suitable for plastic and teflon?
What will happen the next years?
I'm worry [:(]

I think it will don't much harm. Because the faller oil is not acid.
So don't worry and be happy.

For roco and other brands the best solution for plastic gear is the roco grease 10905

But as Davy already pointed out, faller oil should not be a problem.

What about silicon grease? That is non agressive and should work as well. Or maybe it is too thick? Has anyone tried it on a teflon gear already?
