Thanks, John [:I][|)]
It's really great that you kept all the locos that you got as a child, John. And it still looks like new! Did you ever really "play" with it when you were young? I had some model trains too when I was a kid, but those are no longer a part of this world.....[:(]

Thanks John for the great picture.
That's a beautiful example again of the Märklin locos and boxes which so many of us grew up with.
Wish I had kept te box of my BR 44 [xx(]

Oscar, same goes for mine - all long gone now, with E1141 being the sole survivor ...
There were also a green E63 (my very first M) and a nice BR23. The poor Electric was "repaired" to her untimely death by me [:I] when I was little, and the Steamer (together with a heavy #280 Transformer) was sold to my Sarge - I was 20, then, and needed the cash [xx(]
And yes, I did play with 'em - quite extensively. Around 1959 or 1960 I had built myself a very simple M-track layout in my room, nothing big, but I was more than happy with it [:p] !!!
There was a board on the floor, I guess it was of about the very same size my actual layout's level I has, with two tracks (outer and inner oval), 4 electric! turnouts plus one outside- and one inside parking track (those were operated by manual turnouts). In the left center there was a "big" mountain (with road!) made of wooden sticks, plaster and parts of a sheet I had begged from Mom. My friend and I nailed and plastered that thing together, somehow, and when it finally had dried we spraypainted the
whole
story in the most grassy green
!!! you never saw in your life ... (can smell that particular paint and wood still today!)
Since then have a BIG soft spot in my heart for that analog operating system
Best Regards,
John

Wonderful!. I have many of these old beauties. and almost all of the catalogs. M sure did a nice job with these. It's to bad that some head honco thought modern graphics would be better. They are certainly less expensive to produce then the wonderful drawings, but they don't instill the beauty of the product. The boxes maybe more collectable then the contents.

Well John, here the pictures:
This BR81 was a real bargain, she is absolutely mint, i think she has never run out of the box, i have another one without box for use, this i think that i will keep it that way.
The BR23 however is another history, i found it almost destroyed (archived topic here) and now with the proper parts almost done with the restauration, only have to put the pipes on it, the front bumpers, the lampestangen and the front coupler wich is on the way now. Inopereative by now, since she has a new 60903 high efficiency engine and waiting for the proper loksound mfx to come....
Of course the box was founded after the loco....

Would there be a place where one could purchase a empty box in order to store a locomotive that would have come from a starter set.
I currently have two BR03 and a BR216 which could use a box should I require to remove them from the layout and store them away.

Yes, you can, usually empty boxes appears on ebay.de
you have to check on a regular basis to get the one you want.

What a great idea to have an analog level.. Thank you very much I'll start on Monday with another level , and i'll dig out those old blue transformers, and maybe even old m-track. which i have boxes and boxes of most likly rusting away. I even had some of the old 3rail without puko's. What an insight.
Thanks

Stephen: The idea for that analog level came when returning to the hobby in 2003 when our Grandson Enzo
was born (actually it was he who had triggered all this inside me ...)
I then asked our Sons for their old Marklins from the early 1980s, serviced them, and they worked like new !!! Thus I decided to let 'em untouched and build a level only for those beauties [:p]
With today's constantly changing values I just like such ...
Have fun with your newly discovered "old" toys. And give us some pics,
John
p.s.: For removing rust from M-track BALLISTOL Gun Oil and a stiff brush made of brass work best [^]

I did the same with my layout, and added some switches to change to completely digital or analog.
Also I have build a part of my layout with the old 3600 series track,so I can drive my prewar locos also.
And John: Nice 3052 loco. Is the box also marked 3052?

Thanks, Bart. Alas, there's no box - she was a gift from my Uncle (many moons back) and came w/o one. But I don't mind, you can't have it all, and she's the star of my small collection, anyway ...
Great choice of yours re classic 3600 track [:p]! Ought to be the one w/o pukos but with 3rd rail, I guess ???
BTW, funny things can happen, sometimes. As time goes by I (re)discover more and more a big soft spot in my heart for old analog engines ... [^]

The same thing happened to me. After digitalising almost everything I discovered that driving wasn't that smooth anymore. The "feeling" with the lok was gone, electronics had taken over my brain. Than I decided to "play" with my old models (analog) and "model" with the newer ones.
My 3600 track is prewar! So yes there are three rails

Please don't get me wrong, I like my digitals like you do. But it's not the same - talk about that modern electronic accelerator pedal in your car and those we had earlier ...
Well, be it my 03.10 or any of my old 94s - they run just super smoothly [:p]
Guess I'll have to look for some more ...

Congratulations, John, for your new locos !
The E63 looks like new. As it has UIC number plates, I suppose it is a Primex version from the 1980s ?

On the other hand - M's daughter Primex made the very same "naked" E63 #3002 (green shell) from 1989-1992. And when that Primex brand was shut down in 1992 there have been surely many chassis left in stock, finding a new life as a #3001(20) (red shell) - thus your conclusion should be right on the money
BTW, talking chassis - that Primex E132 got the very same chassis as my Swedish DA [^]

I do not wish to appear as impolite or even rude or so, but would it not be much better to leave this thread as a means of communicating all things related to boxes, as you know I am pretty intersted in the old boxes ????
I mean, the E 63 would make an own, very interesting thread, I have three of those myself, and this loco definitely warrants an own thread. Even Zora's and MarCo's repair work on their new E 63 could go in there !!!! And the same goes for the E 32. Wouldn't that be a nice idea ?? Don't be mad at me John !!!!!
Many regards,
Hans

Well, since most of my latest buys are PRIMEX - guess they'll fit Geoff's PRIMEX topic.
That way we can avoid a third one ...

I think it is made by a photo tool program on the computer, not a real box, as was told on Stummi .....
