Hello everyone! I am sorry for entering this kind of question in this forum, but I actually couldn't find a forum more suitable for identification help... ;) I've just bought myself an older Märklin steam engine, (I actually bought a box with some cars and this ). Unfortunately the tender is missing, and I do not know the Märklin article-number for this locomotive, so I hope that someone can help me with this. I am looking for a tender for this locomotive, but since I don't have the article number it will be hard to find which tender to look for... The locomotive has the following specifications: Wheel configuration is : 1-3-1 with drive on all three axles. (I don't know the correct naming conventions for wheel configurations ;) On one side of the cabin it says: DA800 and 23014, on the other side it says MÄRKLIN and 23014. It has 2 real front lightbulbs. It also has manual drive-direction lever on the side Here are some blurry photos (sorry for the poor quality, but it WAS around 1.30 last night, and I was kind of blurry myself  ):    It would be very interesting for me to know the article-number, which year this model were manufactured and, if possible, the article number for the tender... If someone even know where the Original (1:1) were operating, I would be thrilled with joy!! Thanks for reading! Best regards |

It is the Märklin 3005. Build from around 195* until 197* I think.
I have one myself with tender (one of my fathers old trains). |

Hello Jörgen,
and welcome here. Most has been said. But I am sorry to have to add something to a member's (Maxi) posting further above.
By far most 3005 are NOT plastic, but metal. Only the very first ones, built in 1954 and 1955, were made of KUNSTSTOFF (plastic). If indeed you happen to have a plastic one (I'm talking about the Kessel - the boiler), then it is worth a lot more than the metal ones.
Märklin catalog number was DA 800 from 1954 until 1957, when it was changed to 3005. Yet the lettering DA 800 remained on the loco until 1959, when this was replaced by 3005. On the tender, the lettering <u>DA 809 </u>could be found, this is the one for you to look for. This also was changed, in 1961, and from then on the tender bore the number <u>3005</u>, just as the loco.
But of course any tender will look ok, whether its number is DA 809 or 3005.
It was built until 1968. Then Märklin brought out the same one, but without several details, to test the market's acceptance of cheaper models (failure, I have to add) under the catalog number of 3097. Only in 1969. 3005 came back shortly in 1971/72, also with some slight changes, for instance without the numbers 3005 on loco and tender. The last hooray: it was then sold under the brand name Primex from 1973 to 1975, also a slightly simplified version.
From 1972 until 1980 the old version could still be bought at Märklin dealers as what is called Teilesatz, meaning consisting of a set of complete parts. You then could assemble it yourself.
105 units of BR 23 were built, planning started in 1949. The first one was ready in 1950. The last one, 23 105, was delivered in 1959 and was the last steam engine ever to be brought into service by the DB. It had a very short time in active service, because it was already retired in 1971. The last 23's were stationed at Crailsheim, were they were retired in 1975. 23 105 was brought back into service for museum purposes in 1985 (150 years of German railway).

my remark was certainly not meant as an insult or so. I just thought that Jörgen, being new here, would maybe be puzzled if he found himself to own the metal one. And strictly speaking your information was not erroneous. It just told about the first editions of DA 800.

Btw Alberto: The car you have behind the loko, there were one passenger and one baggage car along with the loko... looked just like the one on the photo...

I too have a DA800. It was part of a starter set that was bought for me ( soon after I was born. My first Marklin. It will always have a special place in my collection. Kevin |
