I am new in this group - and could not be happier to have found you.

To cut a long story short, I have a HO scale 89005 loco (I believe it is reviewed in https://www.marklin-user...ws/showreview.asp?ID=222 ). I was given it by my quite older cousin a good amount of years ago, and since then it has been waiting im my "items i love but cannot touch due to lack of time" drawer, primarily because he had told me it was broken. Recently a friend bought a new Maerklin starter set, and I got the chance to test it there - it actually WORKS ! :))))

However, it stops every now and then, and does not go backwards. The bottom contact of the loco looks unhappy, and when I took of the plastic cover I saw that there was a loose cable.

Is there a service manual for marklin locos ? Or, if I were to take detailed pictures of my loco ans to send it to you, would you be able (and also spend your time) to guide me in repairing ? I am quite handy in such operations - and God knows I am in love with this little piece of electro-mechanics, especially since it works after sooo many years.

If I'm not mistaken your question is about the Märklin 3000 ( BR 89 ) loco. Nice little loco isn't it?



Yes there actually is a Service guide in German as well as in English,French and Dutch.

Has your loco been unused for some time? If so ,it will need a thorough clean up of the mechanicals and a careful lubrication.
Changing the pickup shoe would also be a good idea.

Guus, I checked the link you mention but it seems the booklet is no longer available (It has the stop sign next to it: "Artikel werkseitig nicht verfügbar"). And also the picture on the cover of the booklet is different than the inside of my 89005. Will the contained information apply in general? Are there other sources where this booklet can be found?

Also, would you guys think that I should find the same loco on eBay somewhere and buy a second one to fix mine by comparing the differences - so at the end I will have two locos - better than one :). I checked the prices there, but the range is very non-conclusive: There is one which has a starting bid of 29.95 USD and has not received any bids yet, and another which has received 2 bids and is now at USD 2.01 ? What is the correct price ?

Thanks Richard, I followed the link immediately and there it was - a fully exploded view of my Loco. Ah, why do they not include how the wires should be connected - this is the only info I am missing now:
When I remove the cover, there is one loose cable coming from the Feldmagnet (#18 on the drawing) And an extra wire that was clearly added later connecting a connector on the rear end of the Fahrrichtungssch. (#24)(with soldering residue on it) to the Treibgestell (#5) - for whatever reason.

I looked around - but probably there is no wiring diagram - or is there ? Actually the drawing you pointed to does include a "Prinzipdarstelung" which presents the electric principle used in the loco, but I am only handy in repairing mechanics and soldering wires - and am very very bad in understanding circuit diagrams.

One additional point: Some parts on the exploded view that are shown as separable, are not so in the model I have: for example the Zylinderblock (#34) is depicted as a separate piece that snaps on the Treibgestell (#5), in my case however, they are die-cast as a single piece. Can it be that there are multiple versions of this loco - I suspect mine could be as old as 30 years, maybe more.
