Thanks for the information. They sure know how to make it confusing for all of us. It would have been nice if they included a message with the last insider. It would also have been nice if Marklin USA had sent out a notice. O'well their marketing department must know something we dont!

I intended to renew my subscription but as we approach the third month of the year and still no word from Marklin I have decided not to join.
Why should I pay for a service which is so poor the Marklin people who run this Club should be looking for another job.

Well I am back.

Like most of us we also registered on-line and to date theyhave not charged our CC.

We were told that all existing members (2004) would receive the Insider and the MM #1 together with an application form to join the Insider for 2005. Those who have already registered on-line have been asked to exercise some patience. We were also informed that the maintenance of the Insider (circa 80,000 members) Club has been outsourced and our view is that they have been trying to bite off more than they can chew.

Verdict - patience mate patience

I also just got my renewal from Marklin germany today. What did I pay these shysters $40 US for last summer? Supposedly it was for Marklin Club renewal. Maybe the Better Business Bureau needs to be notified?
The most insane part was these fools said I had to reply by FEB 18! Only received it about a month late.
Well, $85 US for a thin magazine and coupons for trains like the lucky pig car aren't worth it. With eBay, who needs the reservations for Insider models - you will find the very same items listed without haven't to go through a particular dealer, but instead shop for the best price. I'll be spending my $85 on something else.
Proper decorum holds me back from saying what I realyy think of this.
One more example of how the "Peter Principal" is true and applies to Marklin as it does many other companies!
Makes me want to switch to Lionel.

There seems to be a general discontent (from reading here and at the Bar & Grill) about the Marklin club... I wonder if the people at Marklin are aware of this? I should think that they need to fire who ever is working this department and get some one else in there. On the other hand, if this is all due to the demands of senior management, maybe Mr. Adams needs to find another job.. You can't run a "Luxury" brand like Marklin as though it's a Chevy dealership, certainly not when you're dealing with this club which has the highest spenders as members... "insiders"

I have also received two renewal notices. Both had the same name and addres, except for one small detail: the first referred Great Britain as my country the second correctly referred Portugal.

Both had different membership numbers.

the part of this that really steams me is that in Dec. 2004, I sent Marklin USA $40 US for membership in 2005. I have just sent Marklin USA an e-mail asking about what has become of my $40.
Any decent company would credit its customers with the $40 towards the new $85 fee (actually it would have its ducks in a row and make the announcement by mid-2004).
I expect to be refunded or credited. If not, I am ending my Insider Club membership for good. I will also find out what I can do to recover my money, if Marklin does not provide some service for the $40 I sent them. I suppose my first step would be through the Better Business Bureau in Marklin USA's hometown. Maybe nothing will come of this.
If you are unhappy with Marklin's handling of this, why stand up for it - drop your membership. When they loose a large margin of their US subscribers, maybe these idiots will get their heads out of their asses and shape up. Maybe over-reacting for $40? Well, why keep putting up with poor customer service - you will only get more of it and worse as time goes by.

There are other posts regarding this matter in another topic in this folder, so I won't waste time rewriting some of the substance, but it is clear that many of us are pretty fed up with this matter.
To recap:
1) Many of us received renewal notices well after the deadline (I got mine about a week ago).
2) Some of us paid our memberships mid year and should not have to renew for months (mine should go through October).
3) Many of us are concerned with the >100% increase in fees, especially since customer service seems to be getting worse.
So, I sent an email to M* (info@maerklin.de) asking about these issues in a reasonably polite manner. I sent the email more than a week and a half ago and have not received the courtesy of a response. I am informed by M*USA that all matters related to Insider Club are handled by Germany, and so they cant help.
I sent a followup email on Friday last. I received a "demon" from the server saying that the message could not be delivered because the recipient account was no longer accepting mail.
I am fed up with M*. I hope they read this. I have spent thousands of $ on M* stuff in the last couple of years. I will no longer support them. Goodbye Mr. Adams.
(I still will remain part of the forum-I have enough stuff to run a decent layout and I like the members here. Anything I need I can get through Ebay or second hand.)

I also sent an e-mail, first to Marklin USA, and also forwarded to Marklin headquarters/Germany. I first got a automated responce for receipt of message from Germany. Today I got a reply from Marklin USA. I was told the Marklin Germany mistakenly sent out renewal forms to EVERYBODY regardless of when your existing membership expires. As the Marklin-User above stated, you do not have to renew until the expiration of your current/existing membership.
So at least Marklin USA is responsive, at least as much as they can be as a satellite group.
All I got from Marklin Germany was a memo (in German), which I didn't even bother to read.
So, I guess I'll have to wait and see if Marklin Germany honors my existing membership. I still haven't received the latest Marklin Insider or Magazine (1/2005). At this point, I can pretty much care less about the catalogs. With the internet, who needs them every year?
Still highly doubtful that I will renew next fall.

I did go ahead and renew on line, rather than wait for the late invoice, which I just got yesterday. I admit that I did this on impulse and wish now that I hadn't. Unless things change drastically in the next year, it will probably be my last year as an "insider". I will then join this forum's "outsider" club. Smile. Do you have dues? Smile

Ours has arrived in the last day or so, I haven't had a chance to look at it, but my mate says it's the usual waffly fluff that we already know belonging to such a progressive group such as this one and others.

I will be telling them to shove it - completely unacceptable service, a big "F" grade in my books.

A couple of days ago, I got a confirmation letter from Märklin telling me that my subscription is confirmed and checked up, and I should receive my new card next May....

finally got my 1/2005 packet from Marklin USA. at least they are helpful and responsive, as the headquarters is not.
I was extremely dissapointed in the Marklin Magazine. I would say it is worse than previous efforts (the international editions in 2004), with less content (pages) and poorer writing - very little detail in the articles. I was kind of psyched to see it after they put the teaser add in the last 2004 issue highlighting the change, showing this big fat magazine. What a piece of crap it turned out to be.
my mind is made up - I will not renew my membership when it expires next fall. I am glad I got in under the gun and "only" paid the $40 fee last fall/winter.
