Where's the best place to buy Marklin stuff mail order? I've been buying from a shop in Germany called www.modellbahn-kramm.com/ where I've found the prices to be very good, and they have a wide range. Oh and it has an english option!
Anyone know of a better place?

I saw that www.amazon.de has started selling Märklin. Havent compared prices.

I shop at ebay.de and the swedish equivalent tradera.com, and http://www.scandic-trains.de. (and my local shops, of course, but they have smaller selections and most often higher prices. If I order somethign from them it noramlly takes 2-4 weeks to have it delivered.

Hello Eiger,All!

I have bought from several E-shops in Germany but most from www.lokshop.de which I think got the best prices, fast deliveries and it´s easy to get Märklin spareparts there biggrin They also speak English so it´s easy to communicate. Visit their E-shop and compare yourself [:p]

Kind Regards

Don't forget shops in the US. I have several that have very good pricing ajckids.com / rjftrains.com and trans-globaltech.com.

For my orders of new items each year, I shop the cheapest from each dealer.

Trans Global will ship anywhere in the world. He has costomers in the Middle East and Asia as well.

Thanks I'll check them out. About the US shops - is there any issue with the difference in voltage or does it only affect the transformers?

Hi John

I now buy all my stuff from the LokShop, I find their prices fair and their Autostatus system brilliant - you know exactly what the status of your order is (Items outstanding, payment confirmed, shipment posted, etc)

I have not bought from fundgrube-neandertal but their prices look good - I found the fact that they do not accept Credit Card payments put me off a bit - Credit Card is just so convienient for me.

Hi John, the best prices and service I have had in USA is from EISENbahn Model Trains, http://www.eisentrains.com. I have returned two different parts to them and have gotten a new replacement in the mail the following week. As someone else recommended, AJC&Kids is very good, http://www.ajckids.com, I have found their track prices to be the best.

Hi all,

From a service perspective I can recommend modellbahn-kramm, rjftrains, ajckids, sunbirdtrainmart & eisentrains. They all turned around my orders quickly and provided me with feedback when I had questions. For pricing it depends on what I am buying, I have seen a great variation. We seem lucky in that there are some great dealers out there. Why have I used so many dealers? I wanted to see how good they were with small orders and not everyone has the same stock on hand for out of production items. I have not ordered from Lokshop but it's probably only a matter of time until I do. And do not forget shipping & payment charges when factoring in the price.

I do have a question. Can anyone explain how VAT is handled on German ebay for buyers in the States? I have been browsing there because it is a good source of out of production items I can not find Stateside, but I am not clear on when VAT is applied to the bid price. Specifically, some sellers mention that VAT is included while others do not mention that. Can it be assumed that VAT is not included unless mentioned? And is it safe to conclude that I will not be charged VAT becasue the item will be shipped directly to the States? I understand what VAT is (I am from Europe, in fact I remember when it was 25%! on some items).

Hi John,

Sorry to hear about your experience with Kramm. Perhaps they are all at Nurenburg Toy Festival. My experience was a couple of years ago. You could try calling if you speak German. I know they had (2 years ago) a staff member who responded to my English Emails.

I like RJFtrains.com, very patient and helpful, and Ted's Toys and Trains (though he's not an on-line store, he has on-line inventory and great prices).

AJCKids is good too!

Choosing a dealer is like choosing a manufacturer: not everyone has everything at all times. For example, Marklin has no E93 models, but Piko does. Also, four different dealers may have four different prices for the same Lok or car. wink

I use Reynaulds.com for most items, best prices in US, good service. I buy most of my Marklin from them, and they have good 3-rail selections from Roco, Piko, Brawa, etc.
For other brands, I use www.tee-usa.com. They have most brands that Reynaulds don't carry (Electrotren, etc). What they show on their web site is what they have in stock, comes in 4-5 days.
Modellbahn-Kramm has even more variety and good prices, but I have to wait 4-5 weeks for delivery so the price needs to be worth the wait. However, some Viessmann items are actually faster from here (In stock vs waiting for next bulk order).

Shop around, keep track of what you like or don't like, and you will wind up with a list of dealers to keep you happy.biggrin

Hi,

I've used http://www.modellbahnecke.de and modelkramm.
No problem with either, but modellbahnecke is really quick, with good communication, and you can check immediatly if the model is in stock .
With modelkramm, you don't have any idea for the delivery date. (maybe asking them in a separate mail? ) They are cheaper on low-price articles.

i'm to have a look at other sites given in this forum.

Reynaulds.com prices are much higher than other sites in the US, try www.eisentrains.com, www.ajckids.com, or rjftrains.com for better prices.

confused

Not on the items I get. Like I said, you need to have a two-step shopping process: First decide what you want, then compare prices, taking into acount past experience, shipping times, etc.
Every time I compare price on an item, Reynauld's is either less or within $5.00. (If they have itwink)

That said, I have not had a really bad experience with any dealer.Smile

I have purchased from Micro Macro Mundo in Florida and Modellbahn Ott Hobbies in Pennsylvania which is around the corner from me. I found that Micro Macro Mundo prices are decent at times while Modellbahn Ott Hobbies are pricy. Lately I just go on eBay and try to get a good deal which is has worked sofar for me.

Just an observation...I had a question on an order I have placed at the LokShop. I sent an e-mail and had an answer from Herr Baer within 5 minutes today.

Added: This is not a unique occurance. He usually gets back quickly, but this is probably the fastest response I've seen from any shop.

has anybody actually visited Micro Macro Mundo in Miami FL USA? From their website, it looks like they carry a huge inventory of trains (on display).
that might make a good vacation trip - go watch a rocket lunch up the coast at the Cape, check out the girls on the beach, and buy some trains. too bad I can't get there on some business trip.
