In the Marklin catalog most shots with C track layouts show a ballast near the top of the rails, or almost covering the roadbed. For those that use C track, do you ballast the sides with real rock like Noch or Woodland Scenics? What color do you use? Do you keep it loose, or bond it to the roadbed?

Hi Bill,
On my layout I have used the Busch ballast (7069) especially made for C Track! It has the same color with the C track ballast and it blends nicely with the scenery. There is also C track ballast from Heki I think... I put a little on each side of the track and then I use other scenic materials (earth ground, grass, etc). |

I have found that natural sand from a beach mixed with medium ground black pepper will match the M tracks very well.

Regarding c-track ballast, look at the "weathering C track" topic under "painting and weathering".
