I'm glad to see Marklin is now including the version number of the file that is being downloaded, previously this wasn't included.

I don't use the web interface. I lan cable connect for updates. Once, and this only occured once which I know of and saw upon staring my CS3+ is the screen had a line about 2/3 to the top between the initial Marklin screen, and the second screen with the Linux logo, or maybe it was before the first. Instaed of the screen being a light blue, it was dark with that blue line. I may have previously shut it down after a derail short without first correcting it. I normally run trains weekly at least once with it, since 2021, but not daily for sure, and even less in warm months.

I just selected the update once. I didn't pay much attention to the execution, but as much as I remember in the beginning the screen went black before start the update (I am
not sure if this was a restart) and in the end there was an automatic restart. After that it was in 2.5.1(0).

I noticed that all locomotives are reregistering and when that is complete the cs3 goes automatically to stop mode. on some locomotives, the CS3 claims it needs to reregister because of a firmware update, even when no update has been done.

and I noticed a couple of bugs in the new web interface.

One is incorrect voltage and temperature reporting from my booster (60175).
voltage is approximately half and temperature is missing. On the cs3 everything is fine.

another is a scaling issue if you make the pc browser window too small it becomes very hard to adjust the locomotive speed, especially down.

any anyone else? other issues?

the new web interface on phones is quite nice.

Oh, sounds like a patch update may be in order? I did the 8 updates per the automatic execution. MS2 is updating now. One MM Loco. worked fine, and My Giruno mfx. I only have one ESU auto registering decoder in my JC Ski lift, which also worked fine.

I updated my CS3 without problems.
No locos have re-registered.
No problems moving or using functions with the locos I currently have on the tracks.

I made some tests with the web interfaces, from a Windows PC and an Android phone. No major problems, but I need further testing. The interface on my phone is similar if not identical to the one I see with my functional vitrine.
Further test tomorrow ...

I have a LGB G1 decoder which had an issue where it would only respond to mfx and not to DCC or MM. If you read the decoder config the Format block although read showed no information - clicking on the down arrow showed nothing.

Updating the decoder firmware to firmware version 3.2.2 didn't help either. The CS3 v2.5.1.0 update includes decoder firmware version 3.3.3 and after applying that and two consecutive registrations (the 2nd probably due to the behaviour mentioned above) the decoder is now working as it should. I'm happy, a $250 decoder has been resurrected!

In fact I have 2 LGB decoders, the other one has been fine.

A friend has a mSD3 sound decoder which did exactly the same thing - no DCC or MM - so the v2.5.1.0 CS3 upgrade / 3.3.3 decoder firmware upgrade maybe what he needs.

Edit: My friend tells me the 3.3.3 firmware update also fixed his mSD3 decoder.

Hi All

Update went very smoothly. Turned everything on the CS3+ found the update and it was installed without any fuss.

I have a mixture of MFX and ESU LokSound decoders. Everything I have tested so far has been fine.

I have to say that they are quite unprofessional to release an update on Friday before the weekend...

The question is what came up on Stummis why there are now two different published files Confused

removed** https://streaming.maerkl.../cs3update_v2.51.0.btrfs (209.960.732 Bytes) English page
new https://streaming.maerkl...s3/cs3update_v2.51.btrfs (209.715.200 Bytes) German page

So the question is, is the smaller new USB file a fix for anything... earliest response on Monday.

I am impressed with their web interface, good step ThumpUp

Another thing that happens to me is that the device freezes when connect the USB stick and go under the System menu.

USB stick has the new file cs3update_v2.51.btrfs, it only freezes when any *.btrfs file is on after various tests Mellow
Might be a problem for users with the only possibility update their device through USB stick.

Another thing is that red mfx marks is not turning off after adding and using engine with ESU decoder.

They probably released it before the weekend because they are getting ready for the holiday season. Maybe to have time to remedy anything before the end of the year.

Interesting observation, and strange with the file size difference.

I did an online forced update, and my CS3 still reregister all mfx locomotives, but at least it does not go into stop mode afterwards anymore.

tested one locomotive with ESU lok sound 4 and it worked fine, even accessing function mapping.

FWIW, the release notes associated with Version 2.5.1(0) include reference to 2.5.0 AND a 2.6.0

Googly translate

V2.6.0
• Improved registration of mfx locomotives The CS3
process which supports the mfx
registration of mfx locomotives
capable decoders has been improved. When
reading out the values required for registration, a
known position in the decoder is assumed. These
values are read specifically. If the position of the
values is not correct, the previous procedure
is reverted to.
After registering a locomotive, the search for further
locomotives is triggered immediately. This eliminates the waiting
time until the following locomotive starts.
After a restore, a binding to the new mfx environment
is sent for all existing locomotives. Depending on
the number of locomotives, this may take a certain
amount of time. If an mfx locomotive is attempted
to be edited during the process, a progress display
of the process appears instead.
It was very difficult to get into the mfx editing dialog
while Discovery was running. The relevant
blocking times have been improved.

Comment, for those more familiar with using a browser to connect to the CS3.

Prior to 2.5.x the end point would offer a Settings/Tools section from where you might see
- see ChangeLog
- take a ScreenShot
- upload/manage Loco images
- select CONTROL to go to the web view of the CS3 app

with 2.5.x the endpoint now takes you directly to the CS3 Control screen - i.e. a web browser view similar to what you see on the CS2 itself but (unlike the VNC) it has its own session.

For those wishing to review the Change Log or Take a screenshot these are now imbedded under the System settings themselves
Change log is under information Section

New Sections exist for ...

One of the aspects of the CS3 and the earlier browser Control/CS3App was the overlaying of all aspects on the same screen.

Sure, with the Control/App you could bring up multiple windows which are setup for layout OR Locos OR accessories.

With the new web browser comes distinct endpoints for Locos, events, etc.
These may be found/navigated to via the system setting panels ...

If a locomotive was created from the internal database in the MS2 and this had a function symbol F0 on F0, this was not displayed correctly. This has been fixed.

MS2 - Operation of the locomotive database with first generation devices
The first generation devices had very tough operation when selecting locomotives from the internal locomotive database. The performance has been improved.

OK, I acknowledge your reference.

However I will reassert from reality
Quote:
The latest candevice library (where code for devices like the MS2, L88 etc is stored) in the CS3 is 2.4.1a dated 20.06.2023.
The recent CS3 2.5.1(0) update package DID NOT have an update for this library

AND
Connecting a MS2 ( already at v4.1 with LDB; v016(2021/3) ) to a CS3 after the 2.5.1(0) update does not offer up any update

Switch off the M4 function in ESU 5, then it's possible to read DCC CV value without getting firmware update massage...

Yesterday I tested with the previously registered locomotives and some mfx locos reregistered and others didn't need to do it and worked well from the start.

I must say that I needed to do 1 shutdown and a boot before it starts to reregister because at first (before the reboot) they simply didn't work. The simple reboot didn't work.

Another strange thing I experienced after the shutdown and "unplug - wait 30 seconds - plug" the power supply cord to the mains, was that the CS3+ didn't wake up. I unplugged it
again and waited several minutes with it unplugged before plug it again, and then yes, it booted normally. I think this isn't related to the update as it looks like an hardware issue.

I can wonder how their strategy is for developing and testing new updates.

If read in different groups, all possible symptoms seem to occur, so have they got huge difference of CS3 production.

The home page look the same as Friday, download link on the English's side gets error and still no documentation.

Let's hope they pushing out small "quick fix" before Xmas so we don't need waiting a year after V2.6.....

Painless update of CS3+ to 2.5.1 and then MS2 update to 4.1.
Digital M (+ some K) track layout with mostly vintage rolling stock and accessories, and small Z scale layout.

ENG 2.5.1 update description now available:
https://www.maerklin.de/..._V2.5.1_shorttext_EN.PDF

(I have no access to locs to test esu lokpilot M4 issues some users mention. Mfx locs work fine.)

After the automatic reregistering (that happens only when needed) I don't have any problems to operate the locomotives.

Hello,
The update 2.5.1 went well, but I also have the issue of Re-registering with M4 decoders... Each time I try to edit the engine on the CS3+, the it re-register the engine so no edit is possible... this is very annoying... the only way around is to change the decoder CVs to only allow DCC...
Is it a wrong update of the CS3 or is it the new way of this update ? Any other way around this ?
Thank you, Francois.

Use the WebApp to change decoders settings until M fix the issue.

Maybe an ESU future firmware also make the issue disapear. ESU has interest (I think) in their decoders work well with the CS3.

My ESU decoders are older v3 and indeed I use them with just DCC.

I too have discovered that my update is requiring all my mfx locomotives to be re-registered. The problem is that I had changed all of my long whistles from on/off to timed and they seem to be back to on/off. Not sure yet if any other settings have changed.

Hi,

There are a lot of cool stuff that I really like with this update. Applying the updates worked well for me on three units so far.

I love the web updates - no more reading and accepting that power and connection story. The interface is cleaner and more logical. The layout diagrams now work for control panels - so happy!

I like being able to copy an event and edit that. The mfx work is nice. Love the clock work as well.

I think I'm seeing some speed performance benefits as well - but can't decide if I am imagining it.

A question: Has anybody done an update with more than one CS3? I have a CS3+ (Primary) and CS3 (Secondary) and am wondering if I need to update both individually or Just the primary. The Marklin Digital guys didn't know for sure - suggested I do them individually.

Thanks,
Roger
