In late June this year we planned to train from Venice to Berlin in one day : Venice to Verona
(Italian rail), Verona to Münich (ÖBB) then Münich to Berlin (DB).

We left Venice "early" morning,

departing Venice St. Lucia on a Frecciarossa train similar to this one :

the train delivered us to Verona on time, with an hour or two for the change :

and we then proceeded to the departures information display to find from which platform
our next train departed,

only to find it had been cancelled by ÖBB during our journey !! Cursing - what now ?

About one hundred irate travellers then descended on this very small ÖBB office in the
Verona P.Nuova station, many with bicycles Crying :

ÖBB then packed us on four buses to Innsbruck, to connect to an ÖBB train to Münich.

Despite our angst it was an interesting journey through the Brenner Pass.

At Innsbruck the ÖBB connecting train to Münich is one hour late and thus we missed our Münich
connection to Berlin. Cursing

A couple of distractions whilst waiting on a peripheral platform:

We subsequently made the late journey from Innsbruck to Münich on a train the same as this ÖBB
Taurus and consist of compartment cars - imaged on my layout in 2015. (I was so annoyed
in Innsbruck that I neglegted to take a picture of our train!) Blushing :

So we had an unexpected overnight stay in Münich, the only compensation was that I had opportunity
en passant to peruse the Gleis 11 modelleisenbahn shop (which I had not visited before when in Münich) :

where I had my first viewing of the Märklin Giruno model (see also the prototype : https://www.marklin-user...d-the-Giruno#post663356) :

The next day to Berlin ... (to be continued OhMyGod )

(We are not happy with ÖBB but we still had fun in the other parts !)

We have a Niece in Munich. Other half's sister is coming to Australia soon for a month.

She is bringing the Brawa Z gauge gas lights (a double version of the one in your Venice photo) as the ones I scrounged up in Germany they would not mail to Australia.

I almost think now with all the effort gone into them thus far, I should actually wire them in which I hadn't really intended to do.

I found a few in France & they arrived without issue.

The last few trips we did in Italy & France, we hired cars & did the back roads & villages, mostly camped with the occasional hotel.

We camped in Verona for 3 nights on the other side of the river up the hill overlooking the town. We did a month drive up from Pompeii through basically the mountains to Bolzano, then train to Munich.

A bit of walking in the Dolomites on our drive through the area.

We camped in Munich in our 2 man Macpac tent. It bucketed down. It the morning everyone one thought we had drowned, but we were the only dry ones. Everyone else had moats in their tents.
