I have a possibility to get this set, but cannot find the number and the seller has lost the cover.

Anyone recognise this set?

Found it... seems to be https://www.maerklin.de/...s/details/article/29184?

Would this work with and MS2 system and should/could the Base Station be connected without the controller?

Thanks!

Yes, you can use this set with MS2, but be aware that you won't be able to use both the MS2 and the IR-controller included in the set.

Thanks, would it be worth connecting the base station for added power, but leave the controller out? I have 5 locomotives at the moment to setup.

Well, under the 'digital functions' part of that page it lists the functions that an ms2 will control.

Not sure what you are asking here. If you are wanting to use the infrared controller that comes with the set at the same time as the ms2, no you cannot do that.

If you want to use the piece of track that has the infrared receiver in it then you need to disconnect the brown and red wires underneath the track. The block with the infrared receiver may then come off the track piece without too much trouble.

It would be a nice set to get. These locos are little gems and run very nicely.

A little googling of Maerklin Start Set mit Kran yielded the result of 29180: https://www.maerklin.de/...te/details/article/29180

I also found similar sets with the number 29181 and 29182, which have infrared remote control, albeit slightly different from the one in your photo.
The remote in the 29183 corresponds to the one in the photo of your set, but the locomotive is different.
The locomotive number (195) of the 29182 is the same as in the photo of your set.

My guess would be that you got a 29182 with the remote, power supply and contact track from a 29183 set.

I picked up on the loco being different to the set originally identified, but didn't pick up on the control unit.
Looking at the photo again I'm not sure how the track with the IR receiver would fit in the box anyway, unless it should be the bottom track on the stack of straights. maybe the big lump fits under the point or somewhere.

I've got 29181, but got it with just the box and train. I've since added all the track and a MS1, I carved out the polystyrene to fit the MS1.

The train is a great themed set, and I run it reasonably often. There were also add on sets available which added a bit of track with extra wagons and vehicles.

There was also the 00777 set which had 12 'CAT' (Caterpillar) construction machinery models - 4 types, 3 of each.

I purchased some extra CAT vehicles locally and run them with the train.
