AC Wheelsets - Question related to AC wheelsets

Hello everyone,

I have a large DC model using Roco track and Marklin central station as my DCC control unit.

I have some Marklin and Roco wagons which I bought from a flea market, yet I do not know if they have DC or AC wheetsets.

In this regard, I have several questions:

1- How can I differentiate between DC and AC wheelsets?

2- What is the worst that can happen if I put an AC wagon on my DC track?

If you have a multimeter check the resistance between the 2 wheels. If you have 0 resistance it is an AC wheel set. If you have a high resistance it is a DC wheel set. If you don't have a multimeter you can usually see an insulated bushing on one wheel of the DC wheel set.

If you put an AC wheel set on a 2 rail DC track you will create a dead short.
