I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask. I found this for $1 US at a train show today. Its package says that it is made in Austria by a company named UMEX. It's model number is U-310, it is beutifully balanced so it will not tip in any direction and it is called a Liebherr Turmdrehkran 8A. It is intended to be towed behind a vehicle. I'm interested in an appropriate time period and what type of vehicle would have been used to haul it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
This is a well know manufacturer of self erecting cranes, used often in building projects.
I have one similar to that right in the front of my house, right now, hauling material for the roof refection (above the room that will house my new layout)!
It would be towed by any construction truck.
In the case of your model, after disassembly, the tower and the jib would be carried on a flat semi trailer, while the mechanism/ power truck would be towed separately.
Hope this helps

UMEX is listed on line 443 in this list.

They are no longer in business.

Thank you very much for your help. I was really pleased with my purchase when I set it up, the lacy look of the booms really stand out. It will help satisfy my desire for one of those mammoth Kibri units for now.

Here's a link to a review of a Conrad Model in 1:50 of the same crane with a slightly different configuration.

Doesn't really answer your questions, but I thought you might be interested all the same.
