Hi.... trying to get my old analog Marklin 1 gauge engine ( model 5700) ready for the holidays and so I tested it recently. It ran rough and lubricating helped a little. However, I believe the brushes may need to be replaced. Unfortunately I lost or misplaced the user manual some time ago and am not sure which type of Marlin brushes would work. I've noticed that they look very similar to the brushes I have on some of my older Marklin HO engines that I own. Any info would be much appreciated.

I think they are the same 6003 brushes as for older H0 AC, now called 600300 - one graphite & one copper/brass roll.

Since I don't have any experience with 1 Gauge, I might be wrong, but the early 1 Gauge used the same motors as H0...

Hi Ken,

Here are the original service sheets for this model from April 1970.

The original part number for the brushes was 60041, this was for a pair of Graphite Brushes. Later they moved to a single graphite brush and a single copper brush, the copper brush aids cleaning of the armature commutator.

As far as I know, 60041 became 600410, and is now sold as 600350 which appears to be a current item in the online shop....

Hope this helps you find them

Thanks so much for all of your input and thanks to Steve for that Manual he included. I really rely on the information provided by the members in this forum since my knowledge of all things Marklin is unfortunately lacking.

60152 seems to be the current part number for a twin pack of carbon brushes (new number 601520?).
