From my 70 locomotives 39 are analog and 31 are digital or delta. Digital and delta ones are both factory models or converted. My own C-track layout will be digital and my two sons M-track layout is analog. It is good test layout for all these wonderful analog locomotives. I really like the sound of that mechanical reversing unit and the nice smell of these... Reminds me from my childhood.
I will convert some of these analog locomotives to delta or digital. If it is an cheap and small one then maybe to delta and for larger more expensive ones to digital. But we will keep most of these analog locomotives as they are. I think their value will be higher after 30 years if they are original then.
I think that if the analog locomotive is not very rare and it is the one we definitely want to run at both layouts, then it will be converted. Like SJ 3030. I have 10 Nohabs and one extra 3068 NSB body which from only one is digital (ESU Loksound 3.5). It is quite easy to change the body to this and be able to drive different Nohabs digitally one at a time. Same goes with the different road numbers V200's and V220. But I have two digital frames to be able to run one 3021 red-blue-silver and one 3081 beige-blue. I have only 7 of these left. I had some time ago over 10 of these 3021's.
All of the afterwards digitalized locomotives I have are not super rare items. I would not digitalize any 1950-1970 (beginning) analog locomotives to digital especially if they are the first versions of that loco and in mint condition.
I just got an idea how to maybe be able to run all of my analog electric locos on my digital layout. Is this possible if I use powered catenary with an analog transformer? Run only analog E-locos from that and if needed to run digital ones with realistic looks (pantographs up), then take power to them from the track and turn off that analog transformer. Is this possible like this?
Best regards,
Janne

Not only is it possible to run analog locomotives drawing power from the catenary while the digital uses the stud contacts since they are separate circuits using a common ground, it is also possible to mix alternating- and direct-current locomotives on the same track in this fashion. It is the beauty of the third-rail system to provide maximum flexibility. (In case you're wondering, I have operated my layout in this manner with no ill effect to the digital locomotives.)
Macht Spaß!

Yes! Thanks from the very quick answer. This is the way to go then at least with some of the older ones I dont want to convert. I will maybe make powered catenary for only some part of the layout, but it is enough to me if I can run them also at some part of the layout as digital ones. For example my 3015 crocodile from 1960
. It can join the four other crocodiles. Factory digital 36159 brown Insider, 3056 green (digitalized with 60901), 3756.1 green factory digital and 39565 brown factory digital with many sounds. I ran that 3015 yesterday first time at my sons analog layout and it runs so well and has nice sound from that worm-drive it has.
My total amount of locomotives has stabilized to 70 for some strange reason even when I have sold many of them recently. So I have also bought more at the same time...
BTW. Is here at the forum any thread about how many of the total locomotives owned are steam, diesel or electric locomotives? I have almost equal amount of all of these.
Best regards,
Janne

I'm not sure if there is a current thread on this topic.
My tally stands at:
Steam - 34
Diesel - 17
Electric - 42
and also 4 railcars, 2 diesel, 1 battery electric, and 1 steam
So you can see I have a lot fewer diesels. Electrics are in the lead at the moment!

There have been several digitalizations during the last few weeks, so the number of my analog locos has been further declined - a few examples:
- Roco DB BR 181 in red livery
- Brawa PCK V 150-4 (a DR V 100)
- Piko DR VT 185
- Märklin DB BR 104
- Trix DB V 36
- Märklin/Schnabel DB BR 81
- Hag SBB Re 4/4 II in red livery
Except the Roco BR 181, I replaced the outdated bulbs of all locos with LEDs, so the lighting is now state-of-the-art.

Hi Ian,
Got my 19th Märklin loco on ebay last week - used and analog.
The're all running analog on my layout.
Two of them are originally Delta.
Two are Digital.
The others are analog but some of them have been repaired with
- 66032 for the use of Telex in analog
- Esu or Uhlenbrock if no Telex
For the decoder side of the Hobby, the one I prefer is my 36742
(
https://www.marklin-users.net/TrainIride/pags/36742.html
)
Although a "first price" model, the programmed speed and acceleration are working in analog mode !
A great behaviour while starting from one of my track sections...
regards
Joël

Hi Ian, I posted early on in this topic that I had only one analog loco left, a 3111, which I said I was putiing on EBay soon. Well, I bit the bullet today and she is up there now. Like all my analog stuff, hardly ever used and in immacualte condition. Anybody interested take a looksee:

Hi Alan,
Yes, I had a look already, she's very nice, what about mate's rates.
I'm looking at something a bit "snowy" for this coming winter.
Ian.
If she's not sold, bring her along on Saturday for a last run round.

Yesterday, I digitalized my only Scandinavian loco - a Märklin Nohab diesel in NSB livery. It got an ESU Lokpilot 4 decoder and new LED lighting. The original motor has been kept - it's a large flat commutator motor, the best running Märklin standard motor - only the field coil has been replaced with the fitting permanent magnet.

My total amount of analog locos are 6:
2 x 3029
1 x 3000
1 x 3062
1 x 3334
1 x 3321 ?

Hi John,
I'm surprised you have any analog Loco's left.

I seem to dig up locos I forgot I had, for isntance the 3062, I don't really have anything to go with it but one day I'll convert it, I've already tried some 5mm led's upper & lower light and this would be one feature when I'm ready to sell it.
the loco is in a reasonable condition, I may even put a sound decoder in it.
my 2 3029, I thought I only had 1 and than found one in a home made box and the 3000 loco is part of a set.
I'm surprising myself when I open up a particular loco and find it is still analog, in a previous topic or it could be the beginning of this topic, I thought I had "none".
I just found another one, diesel loco 3065.
this number will be reduced to 3 very soon when I get my parcel from Germany.

Hi John,
I wish I could look in a cupboard and find a BR53 I'd forgotten about.
