Hi All,

I have converted my V36 and BR236 diesel locomotives to have led lighting and hope you find the process interesting and easy to follow.

Tremendous change I must say. The pre-picture shows a dim sligthly red'ish colour on my screen. Very good result, Ross.

Very good, Ross.

Easier than making light PCBs in both ends. I did it like this:

http://www.saebonet.com/svein/Tog/sites/EU/3145.htm

Rather simple, as this locomotive has only two lanterns in each end. Next time I will use Ross' idea.
My LEDs are too yellow.

I would really like to learn how to create those PCB's. Do any of you know of some really, and I mean REALLY explanatory guide? I'm kind of a newbie in do-it-your-self electronics. biggrin

Not so difficult, Søren

First of all, you have to make a wiring diagram.

Next, you convert the wiring diagram to a linear design, where everything is going "criss cross".
For this purpose, I use a normal paper with 5mm square lines. Each cross on the paper illustrates a hole in the test pcb, which normally has a distance of 2,54 mm. That means that the drawing is close to scale 2:1.

An example of a small light pcb:

I always use a pcb with copper lines and draw them vertically on the paper. If I need to cut one of the copper leads I use a 3 mm drill in a small holder, for careful hand drilling. This has been done under the resistor to the top LED.

Example of wiring diagram converted to a drawing, seen from the copper side:

Benny, I was pleased with the results using components I had on hand, I now have lights that are bright and change with the direction. Smile

Svein, All methods are fine as long as you get the results you are after. I just like to keep it simple so I can repeat the results if required.
