Hi all
I have this model (TRIX No 22316) and it wont run :-( Well to be more specific: Using the Intellibox I cant address or program it. It seems to come with Address 255 and the Intellibox only allows Selectrix addresses up to 155. When I remove the Selectrix decoder and put in a DCC one it runs but very poorly, specifically it jerks then stops with the engine straining. Manual rotation of the flywheel (obviously with body removed) will help it recover but only momentarily, it happens again

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Fionnbarr,

TRIX locomotives operate on DC volatage only unless they have been converted for 3-rail AC operation. If you tried to operate it using AC you may have damaged the decoder and perhaps the motor. To check for motor damage, set all the address codes to Zero and try to operate the locomotive from a DC controller on 2-rail track. If it does not operate then you may also have motor damage. My suggestion is to send it to your dealer for repair.

Oh dear - this is NOT the answer I was hoping for [:(] OK I will try but may I ask a couple of questions please?

Does Selectrix really operate on DC? Must be the only system that does.... Also an Intellibox claims to be able to run Selectrix along with DCC so this would make me wonder.

Be surprised if I've damaged the motor: usually placing a DC motor on AC results in the motor "singing" with the rapid change in frequency. As mentioned it does run with the Seletrix decoder replaced with a DCC one, but with this "jerkiness". Not too worried if I've damaged the chip, I'll just replace it (think I may have a spare motor if it come to that). But I cant program the Selectrix: I can read all the address codes (only 5 IIRC), but any attempt at programming ends up with Error.

Thanks for the reply

Ehummm...

Does Intellibox first generation supporting selectrix system...?

Or do you have Intellibox who really can using selectrix too...?

DCC and selectrix is not the same digitalsystem.

So check after if you have done right with Intellibox too...!

Remember:Selectrix cannot using DCC system...!!!

Yes it does (and Motorola), one of the big advantages of the Intellibox. Basically you can program Selectrix and then specify the Selectrix protocol for the decoder address in question - pretty cool if only I could get it to work[:p] (as mentioned previously I can successfully read the values but not program them)

As I know nothing about Selectrix can I ask again for confirmation it runs under DC?

Thanks for all the replies - a bit of a learning curve here wink

Fionbarr,

Selectrix operates under DC. TRIX HO scale locomotives are now both analogue DC or Digital. The new locomotives produced use the TRIX Mobile Station. Some of the older TRIX locomotives used Selectrix.

You should not use AC tranformers with TRIX locomotives unless they have been converted. Try your locomotive with all address codes set to Zero and use a DC transformer.

Great - a lot clearer thanks. Will investigate further Smile And yes right enough my other TRIX has an inbuilt DCC decoder.

May come back for further help - I picked up this loco on my travels in Switzerland so "back to the dealer" is not an option [:(]

Dont quite know how I can set all address codes (am I right in thinking there's only 5?) to Zero seeing as how the Intellibox doesn't want to program it but I'll try again.
Thanks again

Did you get instructions with this locomotive? You will need to remove the housing of the E-lok and look for the decoder platten. There should be dip switches on the decoder platten that you can manually set to zero.

You can always have it repaired by an authorized dealer even though you did not buy it from them.
