I will be in Luxembourg briefly on business next week. Does anyone know of any Marklin dealer in Luxembourg? If there is none, any model train shop would be of interest.
Thanks,

If I rember correctly, there is one very close to the Palace of "grand-duc Jean" in Luxembourg city. It's been a few years and I can't remember the name [:I][:(] all I know is that it's within 200 meters of the Palace, so it shouldn't be that hard to find (might have been on some sort of square, but the memory is very cloudy... pre-senior's moment ) |
Kind regards, Pieter-Jan Bruges, Belgium. |

Thanks, Pieter-Jan.
I don't know if I'll have any spare time, but if I do, I'll have a look around the area.

I dont remember if Model SHop is the one that is on the "back side" of the area of teh central station. (You have to cross alle the tracks via a bridge, and walk some 500m) -but that is DEFINATLY a nice shop!!!
Lassner is horribly overpriced, and is a huge toy-store with Trains on the side. When I was there 3-4 years ago, they were indeed located very central, but I think they may have moved since then¿?
In the pedestrian zone in the center, there is at least one other smaller toy-store which carried trains. They had LOTs of M. More than Lassner... You'll find it, if you criss-cross the city center walking. (It's very nice!) |

Hello,
This is aside from the railway topic, and out of curiosity. What is the "lingua franca" that one should use while in Luxembourg? Does everyone speak both French and "Luxembourgeois"? Is German also currently spoken? Thanks! |

Regarding shops : "Model Shop" is indeed the store located in the Bonnevoie neighborhood nearby the main train station. It's a nice store for sure but I can't help giving you a warning... The first and only time I went there I found the owner to be quite rude. I was not buying anything immediately so I let all buyers pass before me, and when the store was empty I told him "Hey, nice meeting you, I've got all this old M* junk that I'm going to fix and I will need lots of spare parts in the near future, can you help ?"... As he was looking rather bored I added "Yeah, I'm sure you've heard the story before" to which he replied "not only that, but I really don't have time"... DAMNIT, the store was empty, it was 5.30 PM and the sign on the door said "Open until 6.30 PM" ! If you don't want to be bothered by customers just change you schedule... Anyway, all my M* money in Luxemburg has been spent at MBS-L instead. Much nicer folks and most importantly much bigger store with many spare parts in stock, and a LOT of engines and rolling stock (litterarly hundreds of them, dozens of meters of shelf space, very nice to look at). They're located a bit West of Luxemburg-City, on the Route d'Arlon (road to Arlon) just past the crossing with the main highway that goes around the city. See www.marklin.lu for their address (yeah, they own the domain, pretty good business move from them). Lingua Franca in Luxembourg seems to be French, although Luxemburg citizens together speak Luxemburgish (or whatever it's called in English, sorry). It is said that English is used in financial institutions. And I'm guessing German is used as well. Do not worry too much, be nice and polite and apologize for not knowing the local language and there should be no fuss.
