Thanks for the listings of new 2008 items. Plenty with sound function but why none with telex coupling as well. I have the BR 86 switching outfit but am finding it hard to get other locos to add to the scheme which can also use the telex to switch the stock. Anyone know the reason for this absence. I would have thought that combined with sound it would make a winning combination; two big steps closer to the full illusion.

Hi Peter. Probably too expensive. I agree that telex is an important item which I would like to see on most locos.

David
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

I agree that Telex is most desirable for shunting-freight locs!
These are scarces too!

Most curiously, my 37954 BR03 from year 2005 has a telex unit inside [B)]

Thanks for those links and for all commments. I had not realised that Telex would be expensive for Marklin. I will perhaps get a BR50 as the 86 is with the set that many of us seem to start with. I just hope that the company consider including it in future issues. Even if it is expensive I should have saved enough by then as I cannot see what else one can buy for switching; without getting into uncoupling rails and so forth and coupling up which can be even more tricky!

Peter,

Over the years Marklin have made many locos with Telex. Off the top of my head I can think of Br01, Br03, Br81, Br85, Br86, Br44, Br50 for steamers, and V60 and V90 for diesels. I can't think of any electric right now.

You should be able to pick up some of these old models on ebay.

Please remember, though, that with Telex you can only uncouple the train from the loco, you can't switch individual cars. For that, you'll need the uncoupling tracks.

The new V 90 37903 Diesellokomotive has the new developed telex couplings which are probably cheaper in production as both ends lift simultaniously with the same button (simplified). It works great, no residual magnetism problem.

Hopefully this new style will be incorporated in most shunters.

Ray and Benny thanks for your comments and its good to know that Marklin are seeking an improved version of telex. Ray I take your point about switching and the need for uncoupling tracks. Just by the way which control box controls the uncoupling tracks please; is it the red and green (or the red and yellow)?

Peter, you can use the red/green (same as for a signal or turnout).

For 2008 , the steamer 150 X ( former br44) from SNCF french railways has telex too . Some specialists of french railways declare that it is an interesting - and known - livery that has never been reproduced before by any manufacturer .( About all French steamers the representation of marklin in France get access to what it is considered to be the greatest collection of historical documents on french railways - It is a private collection). About all those German steamers from French railways Marklin is doing a good job .

On the same topic:

I've heard that M is developing a "telex-alternative", that is a decoderoperable coupling wich will retrofit to all (most) earlier couplings. Have I dreamt this, or has anybody else heard about them?
