I seem to be having a problem with pantographs. First it was with the Porsche Tarus 39835. Ended up taking it to a dealer for service after the panto went into about 6-8 pcs. Took him about 30 minutes to rebuild it. The second tarus worked just fine. Just a little sideways motion and the panto's went up.

Now I have a E-94, Marklin 39221 and the pantos won't rise. It seemed to me the old 3000 series just took a slight pressure downward, and they sprang to life. How do you unlock the pantos

I'm not sure, but I think this is the type that has two little tabs which fit into slots in the base of the panto.

Push the top part gently to the side until the tab slides out from its slot, and the side you are pushing on pops up slightly, then push from the other side and that side will pop out. The panto will then be free to rise.

I hope you know what I mean. Its easier to do than to explain.

I thought that may have been the case. You are 100% correct that it has the slots that hold the tabs. I tried what you said, then added a very small bladed screwdriver for assistance. It works!!

Those are rather close tolerances, for my kind of work anyway.
I was trying to find out when the engine was put out. I checked the 03-04 through 2007 catalogs, but it was not listed. I think I will have to go back further. Even checked the .de site and it is not listed. Guess I better order a new Koll's

Gene, at least you did not do the ultimate stupid thing with these pantographs and that is to raise them when inadvertently locked in place. I was successful in repairing 2 of the 4 but the other 2 are dormant for the time being. Doing this once is inexcusable; twice with a second loco is just plain insanity...what was I thinking?

This lok is probably equipped with Sommerfeldt pantos. Many of these pantos have one or two clips on each side of the panto, underneath the blade.
Usually, the panto can be opened by shifting it to one side (or the other) before raising. In my experience, the problem is not the raising, but more getting it back into the locked position once you want it down again.
In a few instances, I have had to straighten out the tab underneath the blade so that it would fit into the slot properly. Still, it is better than some of the other brands where the pantos keep opening in the box and randomly on the layout when least expected.
Replacement pantos are available from Maerklin.de (ersatzteile(at)maerklin.de or you can replace most Sommerfeldt designed ones directly with the Sommerfeldt ones through your dealer.

Those fine models are/can be for example equipped with the mentioned panto; the Märklin part# is 649820, Sommerfeldt's (slightly different base) version has #978.

It is sufficient to adjust the two holding clips (upper arrows) such that they can easily be pushed first into one of the two slots (lower arrows)and then moving them towards the middle such that they "lock" nicely in both slots.

The 39680/39681 have new pantographs as not same one your.

It was produced in 2000 as a MHI (Märklin Händler Initiativ) special locomotive in limited number. I do not know how many.

I know (it's #604097 - red), but the discussion here is about those on loco #39221 which have the same mounted as on the E19 12 (model #37681). wink
