Hi all,

Went to Mother M's website and found that it had been totally reworked...

Was looking in vain for a "Search" field for a long time, but eventually you find it buried deep in the product pages. [V]

The site is also incredibly slow and fails to display a lot of images properly [xx(][xx(][xx(]

What do you guys think of it confused

I found the product database, but it is only in German! The old version gave you a choice of languages!

Also, if I wanted to find a lok and couldn't remember the part number, I would enter 36000, and it would list eveything from there onwards. That doesn't work now.

I hope they improve it quickly!

It is a lot slower, probably becuase3 it has a lot more graphic content. Guess we'll get used to it. At least the exploded parts diagrams are still there.

Far too slow and of little use if in German (unless of course you live there)
No doubt things will get better but this firm seems unable to get anything right first time.
They should have a look at Brawa and do something similar. Another site could be used for spare parts.

I agree, David. Even the PIKO site is much better.

I like a website where you can get to the trains without a whole load of other stuff cluttering your screen.

The graphics are very nice but the website is VERY slow! The website is also mapped out poorly and is somewhat hard to navigate.

Probably not the best idea right before Christmas!

The U.S. Marklin website is far worse however at least it is functional!

Thanks,
Bill

Would have been a great idea to include English in the launch of the new site, But not them!!

When will these guys wake up and get with the progam....

Also seems like the little light signal availabilty indicator that was linked to the thumbnail has also gone -

Too many users online at the same time, to see the new wonder! ;-)
Give them time to fix the bugs, and the novelty to wear off.

2-3 years seems to be the time needed to fix problems at Märklin.

It's loading very fast here on my first attempt to access the new site.

Probably the server was overburdened by too many curious visitors earlier today, like Henrik already mentioned.

I like the site very much,I think it's got a nice layout and the direct access to the spareparts list from the modeldescription seems like a good idea as well.

Kind regards

No problem with the site, no problems with slow loading. Was using the German language before, did not notice the difference.
The link to the old productdatabase seems to work for now, but I don't no for how long this will stay.

As mentioned before, the architecture of the site has build in the options for other languages

No surprise - the site was only slow earlier today due to too many people trying to see the "news" while still being at work. biggrin

PS: Anyone registered for the Newsletter got an e-mail message explaining the new website structure and rationale for the changes.

http://www.maerklin.de/d...ds/produktdatenbank.html is the new search page - German only... Sigh! The result is only a picture - you need more clicks to get the details about the item, but it is easier to go to the parts list...

AND I have to go and find my original Insider card to get my password, because the entry page has changed and the password manager does not recognise the location... [:(]

You can use foxlingo to translate the pages on the go, but you lose the images.

Oh, a new PA and new Big Boy confused Guess no, just kidding.

I must say that I was always somewhat confused by their old web site. This one looks much clearer to me.
Access to the site was slow this afternoon, tried several times. Possibly it was me who has blocked you all [:I]

Hopefully they won't forget to publish the english version.

According to Märklin Netherlands the non-German (i.e. English, Dutch and more) versions of the database will be online in the following weeks.

I guess I know now why my Insider Magazine and membership related items was slow this year!! What a nice job on their new web-site. You better have broadband cable or DSL access!! Nothing in English yet so one needs to know some German to navigate it.

For those wanting to find the spare parts lists they are still available and one can access them via this link http://www.maerklin.de/d...le.html?sArtNumber=3003# for the BR 24 locomotive

One can also access the parts listings via the Produkte then Tools and Downloads then Produktdatenbank. When you select your loco number etc and press enter click on the Details button. You will be shown a current price in Euro and under the button for Ersatzteile. Click on that button and the info is all there to be navigated again. The Insiders Club can still be accessed but you are directed to another page to login.

It should take them a few months to make this site friendly for all Maerklin users worldwide.

Do not be afraid to click buttons even if you do not understand the German.

It is clear that the site was redesigned to market, sell and have customers order Maerklin products. This is to be expected; that is the purpose of most corporate websites of this nature and I'm sure the new owners wanted a website whose emphasis was on selling. Other matters seem to be less important and the speed seems reasonable now.

The U.S. Marklin website is far worse however at least it is functional!

Thanks,
Bill

We have a saying in swedish: "Don't throw rocks when you're in a greenhouse"wink Your words will be taken far more seriously when your own website is up and running...

Please don't compare my website to a major international corporations website!!! Of course I have my opinions about the website as others have strongly supported. Having a website gives no justification to give advice on another's website. Mind you I have only spent about twenty minutes creating my own personal website to simply fill the white space!

It seems at least one of their problems have already been fixed!!

Thank you,
Bill

<br />The graphics are very nice but the website is VERY slow! The website is also mapped out poorly and is somewhat hard to navigate.

Probably not the best idea right before Christmas!

Yes Bill, you are absolutely right. You could not limit the right to critizise to just the limited few who actually have the time, skills and resources to do better. It should be the validity of the arguments that counts, nothing else.
