My Marklin HO set has been in storage for several years in the attic of my home in Paper boxes. Lately I found that not only some of the plastic bildings of my set were chewed up by mice but one of my 16 locomotives (Model 3205)stored within its original box has been partially chewed up on the front.
Beware of these rodents! I would recommend either strong plastic, or preferacly metal boxes/ cabinets for long term storage of your valuable Marklin train sets!

Sorry hear about the mice. They can be a real pain.

I also had mice but inside the ventilation/heater of my car (RX8) which is not driven much in the winter. I took it out in the spring and turned on the heater and heard this crunching sound followed by a really bad smell. It seems I blended them into the rotors of the heater. Great. They had also eaten the insulation under the hood of the car as well.

So, I have to conclude that mice can eat Maerklin trains as well as full size automobiles!

Good luck!

Here's another reason why we love metal locomotives.
I hope that you can replace the shell from your damaged lok and that you don't find additional damage on other units.

Sorry to here that Laszlow, I had a squirrel break into my attic this fall, luckily it didn't do much damage other than where it chewed through the eave of the house. Now I have a trap up there just encase.
