I'm interested in making my own smoke fluid. Has anyone tried this? I don't know if the smoke units burn a light oil or if they use a glycol/water solution. Thanks for any help.

BTW: The digital starter set is great, but I've already ordered more track and turnouts!

I do not thing anything 'burns'. THe smoke fluid is heated to vapor, then when the vapor blows out of the stack, the vapor condenses back to small liquid drops, which we see as 'smoke'. The steam from a boiling kettle has the same effect.

The oil in smoke fluid needs to have a boiling point above room temp, but NOT be flameable (Hard to burn).

And, it should not leave much/any residue while evaporating since that would clog up the smoke unit rather quickly...
