Hi to all,

some time ago i have posted my redux of a 3060 (not Santa-Fe but New Haven) as part of my "trainz-that-never-existed" project. here's the link: https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...ault.aspx?g=posts&t=8159

here's the digitizing part of the work:

for the conversion i have used a 4 function decoder for older Marklins (an amazing decoder made by a friend of mine): no need to the change magnet Smile works really good.

i wanted a light set-up as such: the lower light would be the regular and would change to red in reverse. the upper would be separately controlled far-lights and would go off in reverse. so i had to use a relay to give power to far-lights according to direction.

reversing switch removed along with other cables.

the decoder + decoder plate

decoder attached to te plate with shrink tube and mounted in place

UserPostedImage

soldering done as usual.

UserPostedImage

building a cowling for led lights

UserPostedImage

separate rooms for leds so lights wont mix (especially red)

UserPostedImage

leds in place - all surrounded with aluminum foil for better insulation

UserPostedImage

relay in place

UserPostedImage

used precission sockets for easy maintenance

cowling in place

some progress made

UserPostedImage

after a few hours work is done

body on the chasis

so here's your TCDD DE15000 series loko. TCDD never had F7 locomotives. TCDD diesels are numbered after the pulling power of the engine (1500 hp --> DE15000, if it was 2200 hp it would be called DE22000)

regards,

cem.

Great work! Smile

BTW what decoder is it? From the photos I have got the impression that the loco has still an SFCM motor with field coil, isn't it?

The head lights are really cool. Using a red light on a F7 is completely unknown in the US. But on this side of the Atlantic ocean this is a quite normal feature, and it's natural to assume that a TCDD F7 had such specialties.

Hans hi,

you're right; the loko still have the SFCM motor and field magnet. the decoder is developed by a friend of mine to be used on older Marklin models - requires no modifications at all. it works just fine with one minor hick-up (happens when powering the system).

the series "trainz that never existed" stands for its name: TCDD never had F7 locomotives so headlight arrangement is "made-up" by your humble modeller wink but just like you say TCDD would most probably prefer such light arrangement.

all the best,

cem.

Hi Cem,

As I'm in the process of completely restoring old F7s in very poor conditions that I picked up on eBay, I find your 2 posts very inspiring. Controling the lower and upper lights with different functions seems obvious now, but I hadn't thought of it ;-)
