In a previous thread we discussed the compatablity of the 6015 and 6017 boosters with the Ecos and the general feeling seemed to be that it was OK. The just recieved Marklin Magazine #5 has an article stating that the 6015 and 6017 are now OK to use with the upgraded Marklin Central station. BUT under product info page 6 of the insiderclub news it specifically states that the 6015 and 6017 must not be used with other central control units (no names mentioned in the article)despite claims of being OK as in some cases they operate with another frequency at the booster connection port, potentially causing damage to the boosters. Now interestingly they only say some and not all other operating systems so does this mean that the Ecos will be OK combined with the 6015 and 6017. Interestingly also the Ecos manual does not mention the 6015 only the 6017 as being compatable. Marklin on the other hand specifically mention both as OK. From previous discusions it appears that the Marklin CS and Ecos are basically the same except that the Ecos does not recognise Marklin Mfx but has acknowledged software compatablity ie Railway&Co. Also the Marklin CS has one extra ecoslink Din connection at the rear.
Could some one advice on this booster issue especially in light of Marklins warning regarding the frequency at the booster connection port or is the Ecos operating at the same frequency and in fact OK with the 6015 and 6017 ?
Help would be appreciated as I was just about to order the Ecos and then my insider magazine arrived yesterday just to confuse me [:(].

Hi Diesel, According to the ecos manual it should be ok to connect the booster ( http://www.loksound.de/download...tung_Auflage_I_eBook.pdf). It is also in the ESU forum FAQ (german): Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote: Frage: Wird man mit Ihrer neuen ECOS Zentrale auch Märklin® Booster (6015/6017) betreiben können?
Summary: if you don't need selectrix and you don't mix boosters from different manufacturers it will work. Bert

Hi Diesel I do use a 6017 booster with my upgraded CS without problem If the Ecos manual says booster 6017 it should be safe to use but if you don't have any Booster yet why not get the one from ESU if you get the Ecos About the frequnecy issue I don't now, sorry [:I] |

The frequency at the booster connection port only depends on the track protocol used. So the warning is either pure bull**** or refers to control stations using other more exotic track protocols. As long as you only use Märklin/Motorola, mfx and/or DCC, the Märklin boosters should work well, no matter which brand of control equipment connected. (Provided, of course that the control equipment does not violate the protocols severely).

Thanks for the replies. I have also come to the same conclusion after speaking to others. The 6015 and 6017 should be safe to use but it looks like I will probaby find out by real hands on experience in a few weeks Diesel |

Just to comment my previous post: It was not purely based on theory. I have tested running mixed DCC and Märklin/Motorola protocols through my 6017, using a home-made control equipment. It works fine, no problems at all.
