For those of you into Lionel "O" gauge trains they will begin delivering to stores their first British set. It is the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express train set. Pics of it on the web note that the locomotive is made of metal and it appears to be of high quality. It retails for $299 and includes 4-6-0 locomotive and tender, two passenger coaches, one observation car, three straight FasTrack track sections, eight curved FasTrack track sections, one FasTrack terminal section, powerful CW-80 Transformer. Quite an amazing price, but very similar to the cost of Polar Express. It should end up a collector's item but then it is likely Lionel will offer it for a number of years.

Now if this were not made in China I wonder how much it would cost?

You can check it out at: http://www.lionel.com/

My dealer has the the pre-relese dealer version in his store and I must say it looks very nice. it looks even better than the pre-production model that the Lionel rep had several months ago and better than the catalog photo. and the locks paint matches the passenger cars unlike m version.
It is one of the better starter sets that Lionel has made. I wondering if the quality of the production run will match it.

I wonder if Lionel might offer the loco in GWR or BR livery later on? It would probably go down well with the people buying the ACE Trains range...

Miss 8 and I really like the polar express, but I am guessing that Lionel does not work with 240V...

Thats not really a problem as you can use a step down tranformer. more inital cost of course.

Does anyone know the wattage put out by the Lionel transformers?

As an ex Lionel enthusist, I have succumbed to this set and just ordered it from the US. Hopefully be here in 10 to 14 days. Now I will have to go and buy a step down tranfomer. This will be my Xmas present from my better half. Now what is she expecting....[:o)]
