I'm looking for sources of anything Swiss model or prototype railroading such as recommended websites, accessory or scenery companies, MRR manufacturers, clubs, magazines (German or English), etc. Anyone have leads on this type of information they would like to share?

For some time I've been really fascinated by anything Swiss in terms of model railroading, history and prototypes. This interest predates the notoriety brought about due to Gotthard. In recent years this has resulted in a number of Maerklin Swiss HO electrics and sets as well as Bemo HOm consisting mostly of Swiss narrow gauge such as the Glacier and Bernina Express trains and a couple of HAGs. Now I've begun to subscribe to Loki Swiss model railroading magazine but still have a thirst for more.

Thanks much.

Thanks very much, Troy. I agree about people on this website and Swiss trains; all-time favorites. Thanks for the references on the sites. I seem to go through stages in terms of my interests. Swiss is kinda at its apex right now and who knows by spring it may be Netherlands or Era I Germany again or modern American O gauge.

http://www.tee-classics.ch/
Beautiful websit layout.

http://www.rail-info.ch/
Rhätische Bahn etc.

http://www.sbbhistoric.ch/index...C9BC5CAF&o_lang_id=1

My next layout expansion is planned to be a Swiss section. Got to ride some swiss rail along the south shore of the Bodensee a few weeks ago.

You're welcome David.
I think we share the passion for HAG.Although I think Märklin makes a very competitive line of Swiss locos nowadays.

Hi: I lived in Zürich for a year, and enjoyed all aspects of public transit in Switzerland, especially the services of the ZVV and SBB. We would go to the HBf quite often, and really liked all the trains. But the thing I admire most about the Swiss public transit system is the fact that they have a superbly integrated ticketing system. I had the SBB Halbtax (half price) Abo, and it was honored all across Switzerland. Also, two of my kids had the Kinderpass, and they rode free with either parent ANYWHERE ON ANYTHING, because as they say in Switzerland that "this train is a ship." A colleague at ETHZ/Google in Züri explained to me the careful way the revenue is divided up to assure that ticketing for services can be done everywhere, and that the providers are fairly compensated: this is a marvel of organization. Also, a ticket in Switzerland specifies the class of service and no supplement is needed to take a train that other places requires one. I have taken many a train to and from Züri/Bülach, and have been on ICEs and the Cisalpino with my Anschlussbillett adding Canton Zürich S-Bahn zones!!--MM

you should check youtube too. I've come across some nice footage recently (I think it was from someone's posting about the new marklin gothard railcar set that isn't released yet) - and that lead to many other train videos. but I'm no expert on navigating or searching youtube - "train sbb" will get you a selection of about 100 videos.

Larry: One other piece of advice about Swiss railroads. Next time you are der Schweiz, I suggest you go the Verkehrshaus in Luzern. Even though it is a museum dedicated to all types of transport, it really focuses on the Swiss electric train. There are many examples, and they have lots of information on the development of the technology. They have real trains, prototypes in large scales, and they deal with both normal gauge and 1m guge. They also have a large collection of old Modeleisenbahn in the basement, and a huge, Roco, layout. If you plan to be in Switzerland for a bit remember that you can buy both the Halbtax Abo for a month for visitors, and you can buy the Schweitzermuseumspass, which gets you into the best Swiss museums for free (including the Verkehrshaus!).

Have fun.--MM

Thanks much, Michael. I was in Luzern this past summer but did not go to the Verkehrshaus. Next time I will do so based on your advice. Great idea about the passes. Thanks again.

A little off to the side of the topic...got an email from my dealer (RJF trains) about a short time sale including some Swiss items. Although I mainly collect DSB Era 4 (and Nohabs), the prices I think were too good to pass up. I ordered a 37136 (Era 3 Swiss tank lok) at US $159 and the 3 car set that goes along at $49. IMHO these prices were too good to pass up, so I guess my eventual layout will have a strange combo of landscapes. If anyone is interested, I think the sale is very brief.
