I'm still discussing the matter with my dealer. The damage on the loco is easy to repair and it doesn't nescesarily need to be sent back for that.
The major issue in my case is the damaged box.

Strange, mine came in about two weeks ago in perfect condition, it doesn't suit my personal interest (Era I) at all, but it looks great anyway!

Hi Guus,

Thanks for the information. Looks like mine has arrived. My wife returned home earlier today to find a note from Canada Post that they had been by my house to deliver the package at 12:00pm. But strange enough, I can't pick the item up until the next day, and only after 1:00pm. [:(!][:(!]

Hi! Everyone,

Thank you very much everyone for extending me a warm welcome to the forum. I am extremely delighted to be part of a wonderful bunch of Marklin RR enthusiasts!!

I caught the model train bug a few years ago while on a holiday in Switzerland, travelling the length and breadth of the beautiful country by train!! Due to long hours at work and limited space in the house (apartments are relatively small in Singapore), I end-up spending more time collecting and admiring my models, and perhaps ocassionally running them on a temp layout. I wish one day I will be able to build a permanent layout!!

With regard to #37363, Zuba Tech has informed me last night that they can send me a couple of UIC connectors. Fortunately for me, the locomotive box is in an absolutely mint condition but I will believe someone mentioned on this thread that he requested his dealer a replacement for a damaged one and did get it fairly quickly.

Warm regards,

Rajnish

Hi! Guss, I suggest requesting your dealer to get a new box to replace the damaged one. You have paid the dealer & Marklin the full price for a brand new product so no reason to accept something less!!

In my case, Alain from Hobby Shop promptly sourced a new one from Marklin within a couple of days and sent it across for free!! Great customer service.

Cheers, Chris

I concur.
After some e-mail correspondence with the shopowner I've decided to send the loco back to him and he will further investigate the case.

I'll keep you all posted.

My 37363 has arrived!! [:p][:p]

After initially waiting for the LEAST productive employee in the history of Canada Post to serve me, I was handed my package. The item had been opened by Canada Customs to ensure I paid my fair share of tax and customs fees.

After a lengthy visual inspection, my list of complaints is only that one UIC connector was broken off. I found the item in the box as it had fallen into the empty space that holds the instruction manual and disappeared. The small soft sheets that cover both ends of the lok in the plastic sleeve both show holes where the UIC connectors have pierced the sheets. There was no damage done to the box.

Visually speaking the paint, lettering, appearance, etc, is fantastic. As explained earlier by Lutz, the lok behaves exactly like the 37361.

All in all I have to say I am very pleased with my first purchase of a Marklin item directly from Europe via the internet. Now all that's left for me to do is grab some spare UIC connectors. They even threw in a Swiss made chocolate bar to keep my wife happy!! wink

Hi Brian,

Congratulations!Enjoy your Ae 6/6 [:p]

Somehow I get a feeling these UIC connectors will be broken or just pushed out of its position by putting the loc back into its case again. In other words it might very well be that the dealer checked everything okay but by repacking unknowingly did some damage to the UIC connector(s).

Once again enjoy your loco,it's a real beauty I think.

Kind regards

Sorry to hear that Palle.
Who's your dealer,if I may ask?
From the various postings on this topic I get the distinct feeling almost all of them were delivered by the same dealer.
Almost all of them have broken/missing UIC connectors and last but not least I suspect some of the boxes have been improperly packed!!Why would otherwise the box be damaged?
In my case the box was put in a package which was filled up with filling material afterwards, leaving the box unprotected on two sides.
Never before have I had problems with packaging. All of the other dealers I've dealt with packed the trains in a way so that they could withstand some rough handling.

Thanks Guus! I also got mine from Zuba-tech. I think that a batch of these locos have been dropped from a very high hight - the grab irons at both ends were also out of place but that was easily corrected. Now I just need two new UIC connectors then I'll be happy. I've never seen this damage either inspite of many a loco purchased from ebay - including other Zuba-tech locos. My guess is that whatever happened did so before Zuba-tech.

Well done Steven!

Hi! Guus,

I have bought two of #37363, both from different dealers. The unfortunate (and disheartening) part is that both came with one of the UIC connectors broken. I believe the problem of broken UICs existed before the locos reached the dealers in Switzerland.

The good thing is that it is fairly easy to replace the connectors, as per Zuba Tech, who sent me a bunch of connectors when I informed them that one of the connectors was broken. You just need to take a very fine pin and push the broken part of the connector into the loco. The new connector can be simply inserted into the grove. My second purchase was from Zuba Tech and the box was in an absolutely mint condition.

Anyone who has received a damaged box should promptly get in touch with their dealer and seek a replacement. The dealer should be able to get a new box from Marklin, fairly quickly and without a charge!!

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for your reply Palle.

Although I'm tempted to blame the person who packed the locos there are of course others who deal with these kind of shipments, like customs personel and dispatchers of the various postal services, who all have a hand in the process, which also means opening and repacking the packages!

Wow Steven - great job. You seem to be one hell of a smart guy. People are still paying in excess of CHF650+ and you won the eBay auction for less than Euro 200.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.
I've been offered the same by Zuba and I'm confident I could have replaced them myself, including repair of all the other damage to the loco.
However considering the damage to the loco and its box I've decided to sent it back to the dealer in order to have him judge the situation by himself.
Regretably there are no replacement boxes available anymore, according to his last e-mail.

I had problems with Zuba Tech a while back which I mentioned on the forum. They appear to speak good English if you are buying but not if you have a problem.
My problem was with a HAG loco and I now buy them in the UK although it may cost a bit more.

Hello Guus,

It is rather unfortunate that replacement boxes are no longer available from Marklin.

I would suggest sending back the loco and the box right back to Zuba Tech without further delay and seek a complete replacement. They still have quite a few units in stock so sending you a replacement shouldn't be a problem.......I suggest speaking with Mr. Zuberbuhler, who is the CEO of the company and is an extremely friendly person. He should be able to do something about your case, in my opinion.

Can I ask you what is the # of your #37363 loco? I suspect that all the locos with serial #s in 6XX that Zuba Tech sold were from the damaged lot. All the best getting a complete replacement.

Warm regards,

Chris

Yes, he is normally in charge of the St. Gallen store and often present there. That store is also in easy walking distance from the main station.

I don't think so - Zuba-Tech is slightly to the east/south-east of the main station, near the modern and high municipal "town hall" building. The Army Liq shop on the other hand seems to be north of the station.

Great job Guus in getting a brand new replacement from Zuba - Tech!! Well done - Are they sending you the loco with the same serial number or a different number? I am wondering what will they be doing with all the damaged locos, if they are sending you a different #.

Does anyone know the spare part number for Lichtkörper for #37363 because it seems that the UIC connector can not be replaced without replacing the Lichtkörper, if part of the UIC connector is still stuck insider the Lichtkörper? Zuba Tech has incorectly informed that the UIC connector can be simply fixed by pushing into the loco the broken part of the connector? Lutz - appreciate your assistance with the spare part number. Thanks a bunch!!

Best regards,

Chris

Thanks Chris.

The UIC connector on my other and technically identical Ae 6/6 # 37362 is easily removed by just pulling it out.

If there's a broken part of it still in the loco's body, you might be able to drill it out with a very small drill.

If still needed the partnumber of the light conduit is: 277870 LICHTKOERPER.

Success!

Hi! Guus,

Thank you very much for the detailed information on #37363 spares. I just saw that Marklin have updated their spare parts section on maerklin.de with spare part details for #37363. What is surprising is that the spare parts page for #37361, #37362 and #37363 do not list the spare part number for the UIC connector. Where did you find the details on the UIC connector?

BTW Did you get a new loco with the same serial number or a different number from Zuba Tech? Thanks!!

Cheers,

Chris

Hi! Guus,

Thank you so much for your reply. Hope you get a brand new loco pretty soon in 100% perrfect condition.

I am wondering what will dealers by doing with all the damaged locos, sell them as refurbished units??

Cheers,

Chris

Got my new Ae 6/6 37363 today and this one is as it should be.
Both UIC connectors installed and undamaged. The box is in mint condition this time!

Thanks again to my dealer in St.Gallen!Great srvice to send a completely new one.

However one minor detail ,as with my previous model the pickupshoe is severely damaged. It's ofcourse easily replaced and I have already done so.The loc is excellent in all other aspects. It drives beautifully and the sounds are great as with my other Ae 6/6s.
I always seem to end up with damaged pickup shoes. My fourth new locomotive with that kind of damage already!

Kind regards
Guus

Thanks for the update Guus! I have had no complaints really with my first overseas purchase from this dealer. I emailed them when the item arrived to have them send me a replacement connector for my broken one. So far no response, and a second email was sent off yesterday.

They appear to be sending damaged locos to a lot of peoplebiggrin
The only order I sent them ended with me receiving the wrong loco from the one I ordered.
The UK has a good dealer witrh reasonable prices but does not carry a lot of Swiss A/C stock.

Hi Guus,

very glad to hear that you finally got yours too!!! I wish you and all other proud owners the very best in enjoying this nice model. SmileSmileSmile

PS: Mine was charged today to pull one of these green Swiss cargo trains; i.e. a dedicated Hangartner load with 13 (yes, I know that 4 sets only make 12) waggons, since somewhere in my hidden corners I found another one from ROCO - that much about "solely one and the same supplier". biggrin

Our replacement UIC connectors arrived today so all good for that loco.
With my other 37363 I purchased for myself, I also had to "manipulate" the pickup shoe to achieve better contact, it was well out of alignment.
Strange - still fits with my theory of a pallet load of them being dropped...
Cheers

Thank you Lutz.

That train must look really good!

Good news!
Yes I also think dropping the box might very well be the cause of the damage to the locos.
Maybe the loc moves just enough to inflict too much strain on the pickup shoe and for the UIC connectors to come in contact with the plastic casing.

Kind regards
Guus

Hi Brian,

For what it's worth,it took about four days for the loc to be sent back to Switzerland. Then after a day or 10, I got an e-mail they would send a new one.
The postal services/customs needed 8 days for the shipment from Switzerland to Holland.

Hi David,

I remember that from your posting in another topic some time ago and it made me hesitate at first before deciding to buy from this shop.
I must say they adressed my problem really well.
To be honest it's always a big relief when precious items arrive intact from a mailorder company somewhere abroad.Buying from a brick and mortar shop ,just around the corner, has its advantages.

Kind regards
Guus

Hi Guus. Glad that you have found them to be OK. The dealer I use is in England. If I want something he phones HAG to see if they have it it stock and then comes back to me. His prices are slightly cheaper than in Switzerland and of course there is no extra tax.
As the item wont be in stock then I do have to wait but at least I have somebody I can phone who I know will do his best on my behalf.

I might have missed this point early on, but didn't HAG made this model for Marklin? Or not? I have received several HAG "Erstfeld" models very recently and they are dead ringers for Marklin, except HAG model is equipped with their "F... you" coupler biggrin

Here is HAG:

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the very nice photo of the HAG Ae 6/6.

Although the Märklin model comes very close in comparison to the HAG model,HAG IMHO still surpasses M when it comes to details.
The window pillar for instance is real, where Märklin has this integrated in one plasic part.
The special detailing kit Nr.535 will take care of the coupler "problem" I think.

Kind regards
Guus
