I am in the process of building a new layout and in testing my locos, I have regular problems with a steamer and a short circuit when the engine enters a switch. I suspect it is related to the slider under the tender; but what makes it annoying is that it seems to work fine on some switches but does poorly on others. It seems worse on the wide angle switches (e.g 24711, and 24712) which seems odd as one would expect the opposite. A smaller diesel navigates the swiches without any problems. A related issue seems that the loco 'hangs up' on some of the swithes with the wheels or tender bouncing off. I have checked the alignment and it seems fine. I am very puzzled over this and would be grateful for any advice that anyone may have. Thanks for any and all help.

Tolerance for axle gauge is actually very small, particularly for the slim switches, be they of the K or C type.

What you need to look out for is for perfect gauging of all axles, since if they're not properly gauged, the wheels, particularly tender axles, may end up by touching some of the pukos, especially in the frog areas.

So:

1 - Check exact gauge of the wheel sets;

2 - Get a flat nosed plier and bend the frog area pukos inwards just a tiny bit.

Good luck!
