Hi,

What's the difference between couplers 72020 and 72021? I just got a 72020 set in the mail when I saw the 72021 in the 'Summer New Items 2007'. I can't tell the difference.

Thanks

I think the 72021 includes some copper contacts to make a ground connections in your coaches. 72020 does not have those parts.

Yesterday I bought some 72020 packages.
The package includes 2 couplers + the parts you need to install in the coaches themself: 2 copper contacts, 2 contact plates and 2 connecting pins.

As I was told by my dealer the 72021 only includes the 2 current conduction couplers.

Jos

Correct Jos

In some wagons those copper contacts and plates are already inside from M
so if that is the case you need "only" to buy 72021. If you wagons do not
have these coppers contacts and plates then you need to buy the 72020 set.

Thanks. I don't need all those extra parts anyway. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a different coupler.

Are you sure? The new set is more expensive and the old one isn't produced anymore (I think)

Hi Bert and Pål,

The parts I described are from the 72020 set.
It seems that Marklin changed the description in the product database:

72020:
Each package has 2 current-conducting close couplers and the hardware for the current transmission to convert a car.

72021:
2 close couplers for standard coupler pockets with contacts, 2 sets of contacts for the coupler shafts, 1 ground spring for the truck, 2 wires for connections, and instructions are included.

See the complete description for yourself. But I think the 72020 is the direct replacement for the old 7319 kit.

As I just started installing the 73400 lighting kit in the 439xx coaches I realised I had to buy multiple 73406 pickup shoe/ground spring packages even when only using 1 pickup shoe, just to have a ground spring available for every coach. Now it seems this ground spring is included in the 72021 package so this save's me the money to buy multiple 73406 packages.

So if these new descriptions are correct my dealer was wrong.
My earlier assumption was based on what my dealer told me so this seems to be wrong and Bert was right Smile

So I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of the 72021 at my dealer to verify the above....

As far as for prices (in euro's) the 72020 = 9,75 and the 72021= 9,95. (Marklin prices).
Regards,
Jos
