hello,i'm new to model trains.my papa left me his train set he bought in germany in 1946 i believe. i am needing some info on how to set up the tracks and wiring for the control box.also,not that i would sell this train set but what would it be worth.i have two steam locos,another loco,lots of passenger lighted cars,and other tankers,flatbeds,etc. he also has several train crossings,track swithers,some little coal mine and industrial setups and lots of track. thanks alot for the help.

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum.

The value of your trains would depend very much on their condition, but it could be quite a bit depending on model, whether you have the original boxes, etc.

The wiring also depends on whether you have any electrically operated points and accessories.

thanks i have all the original boxes and the set is in great shape.i will try to post pics and soon as i can. i'm new to this computer stuff so it will take some figuring out. thanks again

i managed to get the train set running tonight. everything works great,the three engines,passenger lighted cars,etc. now if i can just figure out how to hook up all the accessory things. i'm still trying to upload some pics though,i'll keep trying.

Chris, regarding pics; I´ve always found it very useful to use www.maj.com; It´s a free site with unlimited space for storing ones pics, texts and videos online. It´s relatively free from spam (no popups) and allow deep linking to forums like this one.

If you have all the boxes and things are in great shape, it might be worth it for you to get a copy of Koll´s handbook. (maybe it´s only in German?) -to get an overview of the value you have on your hands... -or at least search Ebay for similar articles, to get an idea of street value.
