I have been wondering why the Swiss Ae 6/6 has so weak lights - left side of the pic. See the comparison with the Swiss Class 460 - right side:
(Both engines are from Starter sets 29850/51)

So I removed the body and placed it slightly above the carriage. It was not easy to get a clear shot due to the surprisingly intensity of the to bulbs (not leds). But I think when watching the pic. you can appreciate that the sockets are in line with the lamp lenses of the body not the lighted part of the bulb. The bulbs are inserted in the sockets and then bend towards the center in a 90 degr. angle (if you change the angle reflections will show in the drivers cabin). Thats how you loose light intensity in the lenses. This I find quite strange.

From other threads we have seen that some members have quite a number of these engines. The interesting questions are:

1. Are the different models of the Ae 6/6 suffering from weak lights confused
2. Has anybody done something to change this, if yes what did you do confused

I am thinking of replacing the lamps with leds, which should be easier to align with the lenses ( but not before the warranty period is over [}:)] )

On the other hand it gives the Ae 6/6 a more authentic appearence, doesn't it?.The original loco has incandescant lights as opposed to the modern Re 460s which have halogen beamers.

Kind regards

Hi Guus,
Thanks for your reply. That is exactly the question for me, is it authentic? I don't know because I have never seen the swiss locs live - not even in daylight Smile.
So M* has done it right.

I made new two new PCBs in my 3336, turning the bulbs around.

Meaning that the bulb connectors are in the center and the bulbs are pointing outwards.

Not so much space in end II due to the motor, so I had to solder the bulb wire ends directly to the PCB. It makes the light perfect!
It is converted to digital with 60621.

End I, the copper side away from the bulbs:

End II, the copper side facing the bulbs:

Hi Svein,

This is a very good solution, and I will copy it to my two engines. Thanks.

BTW, do you happen to know why M* have used lamps in these led times confused

Are these lamps long life type confused

God kveld, Benny

The 3336 I have was a new model in 1991 (I bought it in 1992), before the LEDs was commonly used in the locomotives. The newer varsions probably have the same "platform".

The digital versions have the 22 Volt bulbs (610080). I know nothing about the expected life time of these bulbs.

Very often I use simular 28 Volt bulbs, type/size T1. They are somewhat smaller and with longer wire ends. I cut the wires to the required length. The wires are somewhat thinner than the original ones, but normally no contact problems. A 28 Volt bulb on less than 22 Volts will last "forever".

If you anyhow make PCBs, why not make them with smd LEDs?, The front right bulb (illuminates the front right and the top lamp) must probably be replaced by two LEDs; one facing forwards and one facing up, to "hit" the light guide. Remember resistors to reduce the voltage, depending on what kind of LEDs you use.

See example at http://www.saebonet.com/svein/Tog/BR38.htm
