I have an older Marklin turntable that I wish to use on my M track layout. It works very well but it sounds like a coffee grinder on Super Steroids!

I would welcome any suggestions on how to lower the noise level. Anyone who has done this successfully, please let me know how you did it, short of not using it. [V]

I have a Fleischmann turntable, which I modified extensively with amongst other things, a can motor from SB-Modellbau, which does reduce the noise level.

This modification will only work for the Märklin 7686 turntable and its several Fleischmann lookalikes.

If you're talking about the really old M-track TT, then it maybe hopeless in terms of drop in modifications. If you're handy with milling and turning or similar, you maybe be able to still fit a nice can motor, like a Faulhaber or Maxxon. For this case, electrical modifications are required too.

Hi Dick, I've reduced the noise of the driving solenoid by adding a bridge rectifier which feeds the coil. This won't reduce the gear's noise, just the solenoid one, but it's worth a try.

Thank you Luis and Jorge for your ideas. I will try to look at the bridge rectifier for the solenoid. I wonder if anyone has tried to muffle the sheet metal inside of the ring gear area. It seems to amplify the gear noise. The turntable that I have Is the 7186 from Marklin. I don't know the age but I have the original Blue Box.
