Hello does anyone know what the F846/4 set is worth? With the track points, lok and tender, and 4 pass cars and extras. Thanks.

I found three references to that set priced at 160 Euros to 330 Euros. These auctions took place in 2004 to 2006.

I recommend you should not buy train sets until you have complete knowledge about what you are bidding on and how the price structures work here.

I have had Märklin trains for 45 years now and have knowingly collected this stuff for 23 years now (I wouldn't call what I did before 'collecting' but more appropriately 'playing'). But I would NOT have bought train sets, especially on Ebay, until say three years ago. Too dangerous, no good pictures, and there is usually at least one real frog amongst the stuff which wouldn't sell at all if it was offered separately.

Many regards,

Hans

Thanks, I didn't buy anything yesterday because of that reason. I have gotten some pretty amazing deals though. Such as the S870 set that I got for $400 is worth around $1300. Thanks for the information.

Hi,

are you looking for the Chile - set? It has the box of the F 846/3 but the loco is an SK 800 instead of a F 800. It seems not so bad.

You really need a Kolls catalog (German text) to have some basic frame of reference.

Markus - No, it was another one it ended and sold for $300 plus some rare 1950's catalogs and extras. I have seen the Chile set with the SK800 in it...seems a little strange but I'll see how it goes.

Troy Yang - I have a Kolls catalog, the 1989 version with everything in it. Sometimes (even on curent issues) the prices are off compared to Ebay and other sellers.

Prices have changed since 1989. Now 2007 so 18 Years difference.
2 days ago I saw 2 entries for the Same Loco. One had a starting Price of $300 USD and Buy it Now $350.and the other had a starting Price of $100 and a Buy it Now of about $250. Same Loco same condition (new In Box). Different Sellers
Ebay values are in the eye of the Beholder both Seller and Buyer some have unrealistic expectations. Needless to say the higher priced item did not get one Bid the cheaper one sold.
Also 2 Z Scale Zepplins, both on bidding and both had a Buy it Now, one $140.00 USD and the other 4185. Both no bids and No sales
