Hi to all,

When I was purchasing the digital components needed to run my layout I came accross an old switchboard 6041. My questian is how can I use it, is it something like a 6083 decoder is it reliable to use. I know that this item has been discontinued. On my old catalogues it says that sixteen solaniod item can be hooked up.

Those anyone have an opinion about this?

Thank you
Chris

Hi,
a switchboard is more comparable with a keyboards, except, there are no buttons nor LEDs. Instead there are connections for external buttons and indicators, which makes this usable together with a "Gleisbildstellwerk".

It has been discontinued by Märklin, probably because to few items were sold, but S.E.S in germany have an equivavelent I think.

I've no own experience, but if I rember correctly, the wiring is described in "Einsteig in Märklin digital".

Hi Lars,

The wireing diagrams that come with the item are not very good. Plus when you look at the conecting ports there are five ports per item I don't understand.I will try to get my hands on a copy of that digital book is it still produced.

Hello Chris,

Just a little side remark.

From my point of view this switchboard is of no use at all if you have a memory or interface. In those cases, the standard s88 can do the same as the switchboard and even more. Instead of having the train making the contacts on the s88 decoders (encoders), you can have manual contacts. The memory or the computer(in combination with the interface) can carry out the commands that you relate to the manual input.

This solution with the s88 decoders is also a lot cheaper provided that you make your own s88 decoders (like I did). It is a very easy decoder to solder yourself (no pic's or such IC's, just standard off the shelf chips)for a minimum amount of bucks. On the internet you can find a lot of "do it yourself" schematics.

Regards,

Hans

Yes. I looked up the book last night. If you number the connections 1-5, you connect one switch/contact between 1 and 2, and the other between 2 and 3. When you close this contact it's the same as pressing red or green button on a keyboard.

4 and 5 are used for indicatorlights, to indicate the state of the turnout/signal. For this you need connect a separate transformer to the switchboard, connection marked 0 and L I think. And the lamps/leds get their power through the + connection. For connection to the CU you need the standard cable to connect two Märklin boxes.

There is a special warning for the "separate transfomer". If you have only one switchboard and a separate transformer just connection yellow and brown from that to the Switchboard. However, there are two series of switchboard; if several switchboards are used, all switchboards connected to the same transformer should be of the same type. And for the first series, not even common ground is allowed.

Regards,
Lars Westerlind.

Hi Lars, all

First of all thank you for your response. Yesterday night I tried a mock up connection with the 6041 via harnes connected to a keyboard and also connected brown and yellow to the 6041 so far so good. then proceded to connect three M track swiches two of which worked fine but the third worked one way only and started to buzz ( I tried the switch seperatly to see if it was ok and all was fine ) so I tried it again and the same again.

I have connected all the three swiches in the same way. My original intentions where to use the 6041 instead of the K83's but after what you have told me and what I have seen I think it is best to use the k83's to do the job.

So now I am thinking what to do with the 6041 ( shelve it I think )

many thanks again
Chris
