There is an SK 800 passenger set on eBay now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/e...em&item=280083447886

The engine paint looks to me like it has mold damage.

The description says the passenger cars are in like-new condition with beautiful boxes.

The price with shipping would be $1027.41. Since I do not collect HO, I am wondering if this is a good price, too high, etc.?

What say you about the set and price?

Hi Wilma,

the engine is not painted. It is "brünniert". I don't know the word in english but it is a kind of artificial corrision.
In the early post-war years Marklin had a serious lack of enamels. So the they tried ways to get thinks "black" w/o spending rare colors.

At USD 1k this set is still cheap.

You mean chemical blackening, based on an oxidation process?
