I have the older three rail track. Are more recent Marklin locomotives able to run on this track? I'd like to be able to give my antique HR800 a rest at shows. Thanks in advance.

I appreciate the quick answer, folks. I asked because I saw a similar HR800 on Ebay where the seller was emphasizing the pickup shoes had been refitted with the newer long shoe. Mine still has the originals. Because I want to take a small loop layout I use for Christmas to shows year round, I wanted to pick up a newer, less valuable locomotive to take the brunt of daily running.

Your HR800 won't run on new track - but new locos on old track should be no problem.
Old pickup shoes can hang on new tracks with pukos instead of the third continuous rail.

99% work fine. But some small locos like the new T3 dont like these rails (not enough space for the pick-up shoe on switches). Other very long models touch the solinoid-box of the switches if used in turn-direction (VT 08, red arrow).

Thank you folks again. In light of all that, got any recommendations for a good locomotive that won't break the bank yet run 8-10 hours a day, 3-4 days a year?

Recommendation: get a used 3022. Will run for years!wink

On the track, yes, 99% will run fine, but you might have some odd things happen. The Lok from my Lufthansa Airport set would run fine om M-track, except for one curved switch. If the Lok was pointed one way, going in a certain direction, derail. Turn the Lok around or moving the other way, all is OK.[:p]

With M-track, each piece is unique. Rail joins, track guage, even length can vary. As they say in Las Vegas, you pay your money and take your chance.

I picked this up on Ebay and it's just beautiful. Can anyone give me specifics on it...what type, where it ran, etc?

Had similar experience with the BR 103 Lufthansa Express - turned out that one of the boggies couldn't turn freely due to a wire that blocked the travel of the boggie.
Solution: turn loko upside down and and gently move affected boggie back and forth until offending wire had dropped back into the body of the loko where it belonged [^]
