Hi Pierre. I brought my 3122 set in 1971, when I was 11 years old. The set cost me $45 and the 30va transformer cost me another $20, quite a lot of money for an 11 year old boy in 1971. I was fortunate that my cousin worked at the NZ Marklin importer / distributors, so I was able to purchase the set at staff rates. That was my start into the world of Marklin. I had originally intended to purchase a Marklin Sprint car set, but a schoolmate talked me into buying HO trains instead. I'm glad he did. Here's a picture of the 3021 V200 lok from the set taken a couple of weeks ago.

Nice to see a start set so complete. I can't even remember what the box of my start set looked like!

Hi Pierre,

Interesting to see the way you've started of your hobbies! I've started mine with a few bits and pieces I got from my dad and some other rails and locos I bought of a friend. So, no really clear and clear-cut start like your nice starterkit.
The picture you show us, is it showing your own set? In that case, your set is in a pretty nice condition after those 33 years...

Yes, the above pictures are of actual starter set in its present condition. I took the pictures when I crated our last Christmas carpet layout yesterday.

I also have a old Märklin Sprint set (# 1400), which could date back to circa 1976 :

[:(] We never had a small starter set until 1985 [:(] We started Marklin in late 1965 quite by accident. Never looked back, well now have a lot of doubts of current production. But anyway

Matter of fact, on this left coast, we never saw any offered. We have had a dearth of Marklin dealers, and it wasn't until we went to Germany, etc did we learn of the starter sets. Wow, thanks for the nice pics of the early start sets.

We have since purchased several sets, I guess the bundles with the Rheingold cars, etc then digital sets kept us going.

I am definately envious of those who started with the early analogue sets at christmas time.
