There's no topping that, it's just so beautiful. I'll try to scan some old brochures this week. Anyone share my sentiments about the '50s and '60s Märklin printings...?

Yes, you are correct the old graphics were the best! The new material maybe modern and up to date, but it is boring and unimaginative.
The old drawings really made you want to run a railroad even in HO. I always go back to the old material including the posters that Marklin did and really enjoy them .

I actually have this book also in English and scanned it in, about 70MB in size for the best quality but a copy of it is circulating around on the weeeb.

At the moment I am unable to locate the link, perhaps another member in the group may recall the link. It is in one of the previous posted messsages and I think it is an Italian website and was posted either in October or November of this year, hope that will help narrow it down.

Sorry I can't be of more help in tracking down the link.

<font face="Verdana]Here's another one from the same catalogue (the '60/'61 catalogue).

UserPostedImage

^That lay-out, to me, is the best. It's a lay-out that does not resemble reality, but it creates a different reality all of its own. In that sense, it is rather like a graphic novel (for our US friends: that's European for a comic book wink).

UserPostedImage

A comic book shows not how things are, but how the artist would like them to be. It's the same with '60s Märklin. These days, people build lay-outs that are so realistic that sometimes I mistakenly confuse a picture of a lay-out scene with the real thing. I have great respect for that, that requires a lot of skill and creativity. There's no way I can do that. But in all honesty I prefer the vintage Märklin "toy lay-out".

Hi Oscar,

I agree those old drawings on both the brochures and boxes simply are the best [:p]

I really like that old catalogue cover on your first posting in this topic.

Off topic:I've noticed that I can't see pictures of the other postings.
Not only here but in several other ones too.

Could someone help please?
I'm sure it must be some security setting, but I can't find it.What's wrong with my computer this time [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Any idea will be appreciated.

<font face="Verdana]Guus, the images in my posts are hosted on the webserver from where my own website runs. That webserver isn't very stable; it drops out every now and then. When that happens, you won't be able to see the pictures. So the problem might not be with your computer, but with my webserver instead.</font id="Verdana]

Hi Oscar,

Thank you very much for your reply.
The pictures showed up as we speak,so that's a big relief.
No computer replacement for the moment.

Back to your topic,I just adore those old drawings from the catalogues of years gone by.
All hand painted I presume without any help from computer applications.Just great!

Kind regards
Guus
