Hi!

I've finally started working on a homepage for my Japanese N-scale project, and in my list of trains, I'd like to add some info about the real trains before listing which models I have. I need this information for various types of trains. I managed to find something that works for the Shinkansen, so if someone knows links to pages with similar information, would be great.

The shinkansen info (from wikipedia) looks like:

The Shinkansen (#26032;#24185;#32218;) is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by Japan Railways. Since the initial T#333;kaid#333; Shinkansen opened in 1964, the network has expanded to link most major cities on the islands of Honsh#363; and Ky#363;sh#363; with running speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph), in an earthquake and typhoon prone environment. Test run speeds have been 443 km/h (275 mph) for conventional rail, and up to 580 km/h (360 mph) for maglev trainsets.

Shinkansen literally means "New Trunk Line" and hence strictly speaking refers only to the tracks, while the trains themselves are officially referred to as "Super Express" (#36229;#29305;#24613;, ch#333;-tokky#363;); however, this distinction is rarely made even in Japan. In contrast to older lines, Shinkansen are standard gauge, and use tunnels and viaducts to go through and over obstacles, rather than around them.

I need something similar for :

- General steam (when did it start, when was the last trip, etc)
- General diesel (first diesel, most common uses, etc)
- General electric (same as diesel)

- Limited Express
- Express
- Sleeper
- Rapid Local
- Local
- Freight

And possibly event trains as well. Info should be rather short, since I'll be linking to the actual page the info was taken from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(possibly something Z-scale as well ;))

Hello Martijn

The only train I know from your list is the JR Chuo Line in Tokyo, a rapid express going more or less east-west from Tokyo to Takao or another end station (The line is splitting, I cannot remember the other end station's name).

I have many times traveled the distance from Shinjuku to Musashi Sakai, Hachioji and Takao. Takao is the end station towards the west, very close to the Tokyo border, where the landscape changes from the all flat Tokyo to a more "hilly" area. It's easy to see at Google Earth.

I have also travelled many times with Yamanote Line, also from Shinjuku. Sometimes I have travelled north from Tokyo, to Ota in Gunma prefecture, with some kind of express train. I do not know the name.
