Hello everybody

Has anyone heard anything about the possibility to save or make a back-up of your own locomotive list in the CS (up-load it to a PC)?

That would be very helpful if you need to reset the CS.

The answer to that question is clearly YES!wink

Now - if you had asked "when" -> it's planned for the next update.

It seems as if CS is getting many (all?) features that are already or will be build into the ESU ecos. Could it be that they are still involved in the development of the CS as opposed to all the gossip of a fight between ESU & M?

I hope for a CD (or download) and a USB connection between CS and PC

No such a need. The ethernet port is there for that purpose exactly.

In certain regards an ethernet connection is simpler and more effective for passing information than some of the other methods we have grown accustomed to. Will work for any operating system (does not need special drivers just a program for the specific OS) and the connector only comes in one size :)

The update/upgrade will be possible in different ways and depends upon the customer's situation.

Details will be published early enough ahead; first to dealers, then to end users.

This can be done manually (telnet through ethernet port) by simply copying the "loks.bin" file (and/or the "weichen.bin" file for accessories).

Of course to restore it you will need an id/password with write authority.

Hi Peter,

yes, that's one possibility. However, it should or must work not only for "bit-freaks", but rather for ANY CS user worldwide.

Lutz, any idea if there will be hardware upgrades included in the Summer upgrade to the CS?

Those two multi-pin plugs inside two access covers in the underside are clearly asking for something to be inserted there. In the ECoS case, the left side is already filled with the booster, S88 and Sniffer port. Märklin won't go the ECoS way in what regards the Sniffer and Booster bit, that much we know already, given the 60172 Booster will connect to a 60125 or directly to the CS CAN bus and the legacy devices (6021 and related) will connect to a 60128.

It does intrigue me what Märklin intends to do in what regards to the S88 bus though.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger - I was simply answering the original question.

If Marklin can't provided a required feature I think it is fair game for users to find an alternative/workaround.

I'm not shooting anyone. I also don't deny the NATURAL right of any user to search for own solutions. My input was specific to make a clear distinction between a single user solution vs. a broad scale solution which is required by the manufacturer.

Obvious, if any data is being extracted from the system, it doesn't help much if it cannot be moved back again later (so both ways must work properly, data export and import). What happens for example if the data is changed on the system after the export, but before re-import - will/can that create any "mess"?

Creating a data backup is very simple; reovery is a complete different story. But what's the value of any backup w/o a "failsafe" recovery?

That's what is being worked on.

Nothing I know of today (may change "tomorrow").

There will be a separate connection ability for the S88 at the system bus. This should relieve users from the cable lenght/signal issues in the current environments, as well from the need to purchase a booster #60172 just for that purpose. You might think about a product number between 60126 and 60128. biggrin
