I noticed that Hornby are re-releasing the Rivarossi "Orient Express" coaches as two 3 coach sets and individual dining cars. As I rode the "real thing" recently, I would love to have some of these on my layout.

The question is, will they go round my R1 and R2 C/M track curves?

They are quoted as being 27cm length. I have no problems with Marklin and Lima coaches of that length at the moment.

Any thoughts?

I love these... Indeed tempting.

My experience with Lima/Rivarossi/Jouef coaches is that they will track R1 perfectly.

They've had a few coaches out for some time now - the ex-Lima Rheingold sets (two coaches, dome car and the restaurant with bilevel kitchen) look very nice indeed. Only snag is that they don't include close couplers - if Marklin can make a close coupler that mates with the standard hook and loop type then why can't others? There'd be no need to risk infringing any patent Marklin might have, just make the loops and the arm shorter.

I have these cars from an older production. The only problems is that they are very light and you may want to add some weight.when pulling five or more cars they do have a tendancy to tip.

Hi Ray,
What is the part number of that set?
On the Hornby site, I can just find the VSOE set, which is brown/cream?
Thanks

Fred, sorry I didn't answer straight away.

Steven is right.

Catalogue no. HR4010 is a 3 coach pack with 2 sleeping cars and a baggage car.
Catalogue no. HR4020 is a 3 coach pack with 2 dining cars and a baggage van
Catalogue no. HR4011 is a single dining car.

I think I would be looking at getting a 4010 and a 4011 to make up a 4 coach train with 2 sleepers, 1 dining car + 1 baggage car. Any longer than that would not fit in my station.

Hi Steven and Ray,
Thanks for your quick answers.
I was in fact in the Hornby "on line shop" section , and those references are not available there.
BTW, it seems that Lokshop does not sell Hornby!
Where do you buy Hornby MRR?

I buy from these people sometimes. They have good service, and an online tracking system for your order.

I usually use www.ehattons.com - based in Liverpool and something of a legend, they've been in business for 60 years now. They only list what they have in stock, which is better than a lot of other web stores. They also have a service whereby they will email you when a particular new release arrives which could be of use here.
