Youtube served me a film about the festivities around the rebirth of a railway in France. As per the notes: "Destination les hauts plateaux entre Haute-Loire et Ardèche, pour la renaissance d'un chemin de fer d'autrefois, sur la ligne Dunières / Saint-Agrève."

The technical quality of the film is of an earlier generation, but I found it quite nice to watch, both for the trains and for the landscape.

Where it became fascinating for me is from about 10 minutes into the film, where a mallet arrives for a guest appearance. Used to think of mallets as big beasts like those in the USA or South Africa, I was delighted to see a true mallet that is quite small.

Does anyone know what the blocks are that they broke up to fuel that Mallet? It was interesting to see how they ramped it down off of the delivery truck and onto the rails too. Thanks for posting that!

Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.
