Hello guys, I have been on quite a frustrating journey with this and really hope that one of you can help me. I have 2 Marklin 1 scale locomotives #55384 a BR 38 and #55751 a smaller V1c tank locomotive. Both are metal, very nice and both have Dynamic Smoke.

Since both locomotives are doing the same thing, I am guessing it must be something I am not understanding or something within my system settings. My simple around the room loop of track (single line going around the walls of a 10' x 15' space) is being powered by an ESU 50310 controller and power supply. The power supply voltage is adjustable and I set it for 19v, it has plenty of power, rated at 6a. I had originaly thought that the problem was in my original power supply so I bought the ESU system this week to solve that possibility.

Both trains run great but the Dynamic Smoke is not functioning as it should. When you turn it on the system warms up and then the smoke works fine for a few minutes, then it shuts off on its own. From the esu controller if I turn the smoke button off and then back on it will start up again, run for a brief period and then shut itself back off. Very frustrating, obviously. Also, the smoke produced by the smoke stack works best on both locomotives, but the cylinder steam and whistle smoke are weak and sometimes don't come on at all.

Any help/suggestions are welcome. Thanks guys!

-Todd

Probably the function is defined as temporary, if it’s the case you must change to permanent

Maybe take a look in the manuals; for the 55384 it is on page 35 - 36; for 55751 it's page 39 - 40.

"The built-in smoke generator produces smoke
and steam for the smoke stack, whistle, and
for the cylinder strokes synchronized to the wheels.
When the locomotive is standing at a halt or
is running „light“ the smoke generator will
shut off automatically after a maximum of 5
minutes (it comes back on when the locomotive starts to accelerate)"

There's also CVs for individual adjustments to the smoke outputs Cool

Thanks guys.

The function switch is not on temporary.

I looked at the same thing in the instructions and wondered, but when the locomotive accelerates again it stays off.
I will look at the CV's,

Thanks,
Todd
