Hi Ellim
Welcome to this great forum. A presentation would also be great because knowing you a little allows to give some context to our answers

How many M83 and M84 could you connect?
- there are no reasonable limits except the cascading contacts but since Märklin uses professional grade ones there is no real issue
- since they deal with digital, only one contact at a time is providing current (e.g.: solenoids in switches)
- those modules are there to reduce wiring and the amount of cables under the layout, so the practice is to install then not in a long line but rather close to the driven item (switch, signal etc
- when the modules are in a long line, a failing module requires you to unscrew all the modules until the one you need to remove

Cheers
Jean

As Jean explains, the shortest length of wiring cable is best. So, connecting them together does it, then wiring must connect them to accessories, which may be further away from them. Or, you could locate the decoders at different points near turnouts, etc., but then wiring must be run from the power source to them. I determined this a catch 22 on my particular layout, so I connected them together near the track power feed, and ran rather long cabling to turnouts, etc. They work fine.

The answer is one.
