Hi my name is David I am 37 from Belgium and I have autism

I acquired a marklin 3556 from a thrift store a while ago

After doing research and checking everything online and this forum I am still confused

It says it’s a metal body but when I open the box it sounds and feels plastic

I asked someone I know and he looked it up and it’s a plastic hood but everything online seems to say metal

My second question is one or 2 of the yellow hoops stand a little askew

When touching em they move , are they broken ? 😞

I do apologise if this has been asked before I really did my best to research the forum beforehand

Thank you for your patience beforehand

All the best

David

Hi David, and welcome to the forum. I hope we can help you. If you have pictures of your 3556 it would be helpful for the members to assist more effectively. One from each side, and one from the bottom would be a good start.

Koll's catalog has the following description of the 3556 (I translated it from the original German): E-locomotive, wheel arrangement (1'C) (C1), series Ce 6/8III of the SBB, "Crocodile," blue-green, cast, gray chassis, three front lamps on both sides, 2 STA (16), fittings for STA, rail signs, manufacturer number 14305, yellow stopping poles, wheels blackened, K 7.1 1989-1993.

In German:
E-Lok, Achsfolge (1'C) (C1"), Baureihe Ce 6/8III der SBB, "Krokodil", blaugrun, Guss, Fahrgestell grau, beiseitig 3 Stirnlampen, 2 STA (16), Stutzen fur STA, Meallschilder, Beter.-Nr. 14305, Haltestangen gelb, Rader geschartz, K 7.1 1989-1993

The two "STA" are the versions of the pantographs on the roof; the "K 7.1" is the type of coupling

Hi again, David,
I'm trying to upload images of the 3556 from the 1989-1992 catalogs to the forum, but it's acting up. I'll try again later.

From what I can tell, the body should be made from metal.

The yellow metal hoops should be metal as well, but I don't own a 3556 so hopefully a Crocodile expert can weigh in for you.

Brian

Hi David, welcome to the forum.

The 3556 has road number 14305, a metal body, and was produced from 1989 to 1993.

As far as I can remember, only the 3056, and the 3356 with road numbers 13302 and 13303 have a plastic body.
The 3356 has been metal since 1993 (mostly 13305).

Does your loco have a sticker with a serial number on the bottom?
The 3556's number should start with the letter R.

Hope this helps to identify your loco.

The warranty card is definitively for a 3556 with an R serial number.

Would you be able to check the underside of the locomotive for a serial number sticker?

A photo of the box would also be helpful.

I might not be well informed but I'm not aware of any crocs with road number 14305 and a plastic body.
Other green 14305 models are 3656 (early digital) and the first series of 3756 (digital) from 1993 only, but these also have a metal body.

Hello David, all. I have the Hamo 8356. Plastic body. The box is the blue with diagonal red/orange stripes. I bought it from a retired doctors consignment collection in 1991. Road number 13302, Serial number is 447388.
