Hi all,

I just purchased some second hand carriages ( #42354 "which appeared to be in good condition but sadly one - passenger wagon with landing" has totally worn out plastic bearing cups so wheels rub bottom of frame of carriage and do not spin.

Did a little research and found peco make brass cups "NR91 Peco Brass Bearing Cups - Pack of 20 ".

Just wondering if anyone has used these with success and any clues to make inserting as easy as possible.

Also any alternate solutions.

cheers and thanks

I have an older ROCO wagon (2-axled freight) where this had happened, and what I did (improvised) was this:
Clean out any old oil/grease from the bearing. Smear a small drop of superglue (CA) in each hole, and hollow it out with an axle end where you want the bearing to be, all the time while the CA dries.
As the CA glue is basically plastic and stick to everything, I achieved to "replace" the missing plastic from the original bearings.
Once dry the CA-plastic has very low friction, and is very hard.
Works like a charm! ThumpUp

Hi Diesel
For the little I know, plastic used by Märklin in bogies have little wear so under normal use, the wear should not show unless professional use with weeks and months of permanent running.
Have you tried to bend a little the bogie side so that the space for the axle mount is reduced?
Is the cone inside the boggie damaged (by a foreign axle etc)?
Brass is not particularly good for bearing unless permanently lubricated (unlike Märklin design where a drop of oil is only needed once when unpacking first time to prevent the axle corrosion.
You also may have difficulties to insert the brass cone inside the bogie (bending? drilling?)

These are only my 2 cents
Cheers

Hi All,

thanks for your quick responses which will help me to try to get this carriage back on track without a disaster - it will be a slow process.

Cheers

PS Ross your article is great and certainly shows where to be cautious BigGrin
