I just received item #44253, a Start6 Up item. The package is completely sealed. I cannot open it without incurring some damage. There are perforations in order to access inside, but again that would incur some damage. Is this the new "normal"? |

So the cardboard box is is all glued together instead of the usual box that can be opened and closed (after cutting or removing the tape/clear sticker)? Maybe it's new packaging to keep price down since it's already quite cheap? Can be seen here: https://www.maerklin.de/...te/details/article/44253

I normally don’t buy the beginner stuff, but this called my name. :-) |

I normally don’t buy the beginner stuff, but this called my name. :-) I was sure that you would order this wagon, as I know you are a big Cola (and AfriCola) fan! (not my thing at all, as you know!) I have just a couple of StartUp-labelled wagons in similar-looking boxes, but they open as standard Märklin boxes do, so this sealed construction is a new departure. Perhaps they sell them in supermarkets or "drug stores" where there are lots of little fingers. Of course, sealed boxes is not completely new for Märklin. In the very early days of plain brown boxes and red diamond design boxes, they were always sealed with brown tape, though you virtually never find boxes that are still sealed. I think I have three of the original brown-box unassembled loco kits that are still sealed with their original brown tape, but those are the only ones I've ever found. And also, most Primex models were sold in sealed boxes too, and you had to wreck the labels to open them. Only if you kept a Primex model for years until the glue on the labels deteriorated could you open one without damaging it! Perhaps you need to buy a second AfriCola wagon so you can open one and keep one perfect . . . Best wishes, Nigel |
